Duck Dynasty’s John Godwin Shares His Twin Grandkids Were Hospitalized

John Godwin‘s dynasty has expanded.

Johanna Mata, daughter of a former star from Duck Dynasty, recently had twin daughters, Cassandra and Isabella, with her husband, Cecilio. The birth didn’t go exactly as planned.

John announced on the January 1st episode of the Duck Call Room podcast that his twin daughters had arrived several weeks prematurely and are currently still in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

The difficult situation started in mid-December when John and his wife, Paula Archer Godwin, received a call saying their daughter, Johanna, was hospitalized. Doctors were closely monitoring Johanna for preeclampsia, a dangerous pregnancy condition that can cause severe health problems, due to her high blood pressure.

“She said, “Y’all need to get up here,'” John recalled. “‘They fixing to have y’all grandkids.'”

Johanna recently welcomed her twin daughters, Cassandra and Isabella, on December 19th. Cassandra was born at 9:24 a.m., and Isabella followed just a few minutes later. Cassandra weighed 5 pounds, 6 ounces, while Isabella weighed 4 pounds, 11 ounces.

But that wasn’t the end of Johanna’s ordeal. 

 

John mentioned on his podcast that she was very pale for a few days and needed iron and magnesium supplements to feel better.

Her babies needed medical care, including assistance with breathing and eating. They stayed in the hospital until January 4th, when Johanna was finally able to bring them home.

After finally bringing her newborns home, Johanna shared on Instagram, “What a day! I never imagined we’d be here.”

Honestly, after bringing the babies home, I just posted ‘What. A. Day.’ on Instagram! It feels surreal – I never imagined we’d actually be here, finally starting our life as a family of four. It’s a beautiful, overwhelming moment, and I’m soaking it all in.

It’s been a really tough time, full of ups and downs, but we’re so happy to finally be past it and looking forward to the future. Welcome home to my daughters! We’ve been praying a lot, and it feels like those prayers were answered.
