Villeneuve has previously shared that he filmed a large portion of the third movie using both 70mm film and IMAX cameras.
He explained that a significant portion of the film was shot using IMAX film cameras, a first for him. However, he chose to keep the desert scenes digital, preferring the stark, raw look that digital IMAX provides.
He went on to describe the IMAX cameras as “epic” and “the best cameras in the world”.

He explained that seeing the final result was incredible and unlike anything else. He found the experience truly unique and hoped to repeat it, describing it as the most immersive format available.
He explained that cinema is an art form designed to transport you and let you experience things beyond everyday life. Ultimately, he believes sharing experiences is a vital part of being human.
