I’m really excited to hear that Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson might be coming back to play the Scorpion King! It’s amazing to think that role was actually how he started his movie career, way back in ‘The Mummy Returns’ in 2001. He then got to really shine as the Scorpion King in his own movie in 2002, and it would be awesome to see him revisit that character again.
Dwayne Johnson rumored to be back as Scorpion King
A recent report from industry insider My Time To Shine Hello suggests Dwayne Johnson might return to play the Scorpion King in a future project.
According to a post on X (formerly Twitter) by MTTSH, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is potentially in discussions to reprise his role as the Scorpion King. However, Johnson himself hasn’t confirmed this. A new ‘Mummy’ movie is planned, directed by Lee Cronin, and scheduled for release on April 17, 2026, but it’s currently unclear if Johnson will be involved in that film, or any future projects, as the Scorpion King.
In December 2020, Deadline announced that Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson was partnering with Dany Garcia and Seven Bucks Productions to create a new “Scorpion King” film. Jonathan Herman was set to write the screenplay.
You know, looking back, *The Scorpion King* was actually my very first movie role ever! It’s a huge honor to get to bring that character back for a new generation with this reboot of the 2002 film. I really feel lucky to have gotten the chance to play The Scorpion King – it definitely helped launch my career. And I have to say, I’m really impressed with Jonathan Herman; I truly believe he’s going to nail the script and deliver something fantastic.
We still haven’t heard anything about a potential reboot from Johnson, despite his new movie, The Smashing Machine, just coming out in cinemas.
