Flavor Flav is clearing the air about his scoring decision.
The rapper from Public Enemy explained why he gave Alix Earle and Valentin Chmerkovskiy a slightly lower score during the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame episode of Dancing With the Stars, preventing them from getting a perfect score. He shared the mistake that caused him to give that rating.
Flav, after appearing as a guest judge on #DWTS, explained on X (formerly Twitter) that the scoring system doesn’t allow for mistakes. He accidentally entered a score of 9 instead of 10 for a contestant, but the crew told him they were unable to change it, even after he pointed out the error.
Further confirming his intentions, he added, “That girl deserved perfect 10s.”
Flav really enjoyed Alix and Val’s dance to Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ on a Prayer,” and he even stood up to tell them how good it was.
The rapper stood up and said, ‘I was watching what you guys were doing.’ He complimented their performance, adding, ‘The way you all moved together, the timing, it was all great. You were really good.’ He was then interrupted by the music.
Judges Carrie Ann Inaba, Derek Hough, and Bruno Tonioli all gave a perfect score of 10, raising their paddles to show it. Flav, however, quietly scored the performance a 9. Despite this, Alix and Val were safe from elimination, earning a total of 39 out of 40. The performer felt the dance deserved a perfect score of 40.

Alix and Val nearly reached a perfect score for the second week in a row during Rock and Roll Night. Following their tango to Billie Eilish’s “Bury a Friend” on Halloween, the pair received three scores of 10 and a 9 from guest judge Cheryl Burke.
Despite facing criticism from fans and Alix’s stepmother, Ashley Dupré, Alix praised the guest judge’s feedback.
Alix left a comment on Cheryl’s TikTok video from October 30th, saying they really appreciated Cheryl’s feedback and found it helpful as a competitor. They simply added, ‘Thank you.’
Alix and Val are moving forward on the show after Danielle Fishel and her partner Pasha Pashkov were eliminated on November 4th. On November 10th, the remaining couples will celebrate the 20th anniversary of Dancing with the Stars, and former host Tom Bergeron will return as a guest judge.
