DWTS’ Robert Irwin Says He Almost Choked to Death During Group Dance

Robert Irwin lives to dance another day.

Things almost went wrong during a group dance on this week’s Dancing With the Stars Rock and Roll Hall of Fame episode when a mistake happened.

Robert shared with Entertainment Tonight that he had a scary moment after the November 4th episode of the show. He explained that he choked on a piece of confetti following the team dance, and it was a genuinely frightening experience, as he told the outlet alongside his dance partner, Witney Carson.

The 21-year-old explained that while in Witney, they accidentally breathed in a piece of confetti and temporarily couldn’t breathe.

Robert managed to clear the confetti himself while trying to tell the dancer he was choking. He actually coughed it up as soon as he reached Witney.

As Robert noted, “I’m not even kidding.”

Adding to the fright of the chaotic situation, Witney was completely unaware of Robert’s panic.

“I didn’t even know that was happening,” she said. “I would have been his shield.”

Robert and Witney had a great performance after a slight stumble, earning the highest score of the night with their Paso Doble to The White Stripes’ “Icky Thump.”

No matter the outcome of the competition, the wildlife conservationist – whose sister, Bindi Irwin, won ‘Dancing with the Stars’ in 2015 with Derek Hough – is focused on a single aim.

After his performance this week, Robert shared on Good Morning America that his biggest goal is to continue inspiring people across America with enthusiasm and a positive attitude. He said that’s what he set out to do from the beginning.

He shared how much it meant to him and the team to be invited back each week. He explained that their goal is to use dance to share meaningful and important stories, and the continued support means a lot to that mission.

Robert aims to keep sharing heartfelt stories about sadness and loss, alongside uplifting tales of the people who inspire us, and joyful, lighthearted moments, right up to the very end.

He expressed strong optimism about continuing until the very end, stating that achieving this was their primary and complete objective.
