In August, the expansion “Dying Light: The Beast” will be released, and Techland has something exciting planned for fans of the original game. On June 26th, the Retouched Update will become available on Xbox One, PS4, PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S. This update brings several improvements to the first Dying Light game. However, franchise director Tymon Smektala clarifies that it’s not a complete overhaul or remaster of the original game.
From my perspective as an enthusiast, it delivers a boost in environment texture quality, enhances lighting effects, and employs physics-based rendering for a more immersive gaming experience. Additionally, it introduces the latest 8K Ultra Shadow Quality option. Underneath the surface, there are minor adjustments and modifications to the code, expanding the maximum level of detail from 260% to an impressive 340%.
In addition to refurbishing the music, Techland has brought back original composer Paweł Blaszczak, who has not only reprised his previous work but also added fresh tracks and atmospheric sounds. Furthermore, the reaction audio for hits has been enhanced significantly, leading to more intense fight sequences and takedowns.
Regarding the lengthy wait for the Retouched Update, Smektala explains, “We were dealing with technology that’s over a decade old. Despite all the expertise we’ve accumulated throughout the years, finding ways to incorporate our new insights into the original Dying Light engine without compromising stability was no easy feat.
Beyond the significant labor involved, our 3D artist Krzysztof Knefel meticulously navigates the entire map, identifying elements needing enhancement. Each one was altered personally by our artists. However, despite these substantial enhancements, the system specifications stay consistent.
Keep an eye out for complete details in the update release; for “Dying Light: The Beast,” it’s set to debut on August 22nd across Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC platforms.
