If you finished Kyle Crane’s story in *Dying Light: The Beast*, you know his journey isn’t over. This installment offered a more intense and personal look at Crane, who reconnects with a character from previous games and finds new companions while struggling to survive in a world ravaged by the THV virus.
So, how can the next installment of *The Beast* build on everything fans love about its thrilling combination of parkour and horror? How will Kyle and his friends start fighting back against the source of all their troubles? And will Kyle’s experiences as the Baron’s test subject have lasting effects on him? Let’s dive into these questions.
Let’s preview the exciting and action-packed next chapter for Kyle and his team in *Dying Light 3*.
Revenge and Redemption
Just a heads-up: what follows contains major spoilers for *The Beast*. If you haven’t finished the game yet, we recommend doing so before reading on – the story is best enjoyed with a sense of mystery!
If you don’t mind learning key plot points ahead of time, here’s what happens: Kyle eventually confronts the Baron, who has boosted himself with a stronger version of the THV virus, giving him a powerful, beast-like transformation. This is exactly the kind of weapon the GRE organization always wanted, so after Kyle defeats the Baron’s mutated form, a former GRE contact reaches out. They offer Kyle his freedom if he agrees to work with them again.
The Baron was becoming a problem for the organization, revealing he was connected to them, and the GRE is thankful Kyle eliminated him. Kyle, however, doesn’t feel the same way and promises to destroy the GRE, setting up a dramatic ending – a signature element of this series. Now that’s settled, let’s examine the key plot points that could shape the future of the story.
I’m really excited about Aiden Caldwell coming back! The fact that he’s got his own Beast mode is awesome, but I’m even more intrigued by what happened after *Stay Human*. Why did he keep wandering as a pilgrim? And that attempt to save Crane, only to get captured by The Baron… there’s so much story potential there, and I’m hoping the next game really dives into all of that. It feels like there are a lot of loose ends they could pick up and explore.
How did Aiden meet Spike, a friend of Crane? What caused The Baron to transform into the dangerous Beast that Crane hunted at the beginning of the game? Given their similar pasts, will Aiden view Crane as a guide, or as someone on the same level? Aiden’s arrival in *Dying Light 3* promises to add some compelling twists to the story.
Lydia is a particularly interesting character. She was one of The Baron’s experiments and, as someone infected with the THV virus, she can think for herself and even communicate telepathically with other infected. Her story has a lot of potential and could be explored further in the next game.
It’s hard to miss the parallels between this new character and The Mother from *Dying Light: The Following*. Could she play a role in Kyle building his own infected army? Or perhaps she’ll help both him and Aiden control their wilder sides if they lose control during a fight? She’s a promising character, and it seems likely Techland will involve her in the ongoing struggle against the GRE.
It was a complete shock to hear from Kyle’s old boss during the GRE, as they tried to recruit him back to their company at a critical moment. It’s clear they were heavily involved in The Baron’s virus research, providing the funding all along. It just didn’t add up that The Beast’s enemy would both know about Crane and have the means to finance all of his work independently.
This group has long sought to exploit the virus, and their involvement in Kyle’s thirteen-year struggle might make him even more focused on defeating them than he was with The Baron. He’s already actively fighting against them, and this could lead to many exciting developments.
Several other characters from *The Beast* could appear in *Dying Light 3*, as Olivia, the Sheriff, Lydia’s exiled group, and the New Town survivors were all involved in the story. Olivia’s father is a particularly interesting possibility. As a former Harran resident and a scientist who studied the original virus, he could play a key role in finding a cure, perhaps by utilizing the GSB from the Chimeras.
Everything we’ve discussed so far is based on what Techland showed us. Now, let’s explore what the studio *didn’t* tell us.
The Path to a Grand Finale
Aiden’s reappearance in the story made us question why he became so wild compared to Kyle, who still controlled his Beast abilities. It’s unclear why Aiden reacted so negatively to experiments that seemed similar. We have a feeling the GRE organization is responsible for what happened to both of them.
Given Techland’s access to The Baron’s research, it’s logical they’d have some superpowered individuals as well. This offers a great chance to reintroduce beloved characters and create new ones. For example, Rais, the villain from the original *Dying Light*, seemingly died after Kyle stabbed him. However, perhaps he was saved and became one of the GRE’s first experiments – a virus-enhanced soldier? He’d be a strong contender for a returning character.
Fans noticed Lawan and Hakon were missing from *The Beast*, which was surprising since we know at least one of them was traveling with Aiden as an Infected Pilgrim. It’s unclear why they didn’t try to help him after his failed rescue of Kyle. Were they somehow involved in his journey to Castor Woods? Or did Aiden becoming infected make them reluctant to contact him?
It’s possible the characters have discovered the GRE’s plans and are trying to stop them. Given that the GRE has been secretly controlling things from a distance, making them a direct and active enemy could set them up as the main villain in *Dying Light 3*. Having the source of the world’s problems play a larger role in the story would be a logical step, benefiting both the narrative and the gameplay, as we’ve discussed.
This is likely because, similar to The Baron, the GRE may have been involved in the origins of Waltz’s research with the X3 base. This could explain why Aiden wants revenge on those who caused so much harm. The GRE is a natural enemy for both Crane and Aiden, potentially uniting them in a common goal: to destroy it.
As a huge *Dying Light* fan, I’m getting really excited about the possibility of the next game! It sounds like we might get to play as both Crane *and* Aiden, maybe even switching between them whenever we want, or following their separate stories at the same time. Imagine them both trying to climb the ranks of the organization, and even teaming up as two Beasts! That would be incredible.
Maybe Aiden’s ability to transform into a Beast helps him avoid needing constant sunlight, giving him more freedom to complete missions in the game. Crane might also improve his own powers, either with Lydia’s guidance or by winning battles against the GRE’s enhanced enemies.
Story-wise, *Dying Light 3* gives Techland a chance to explore even grimmer and more personal themes than *The Beast*. Given the widespread hatred for the GRE – the organization responsible for the THV virus – characters like Crane and his team could be driven by strong resentment. This could lead to an incredibly intense conflict in the sequel, building on the improvements seen in *The Beast*.
Techland is confirmed to be working on *Dying Light 3*. What started as downloadable content for *Stay Human*, called *The Beast*, has grown into a full, separate game, and it’s been fantastic to develop.
If Techland keeps up their good work, *Dying Light 3* has the potential to deliver thrilling action and a satisfying conclusion to the series’ story. Now we just need to wait for Techland to announce when we can expect the game.
