Dylan Efron Says Zac Efron Had “Defensive” Reaction to DWTS Moment

Dylan Efron is clearing up that awkward moment.

The former contestant on Traitors explained what his brother, Zac Efron, thought after a video of his reaction to Dylan’s score on Dancing With the Stars became popular online. He said Zac got protective and reacted defensively to the comments.

Dylan explained on Sirius XM’s Smith Sisters Live on December 9th that he mentioned this to Zac because he initially thought it was a funny story. However, Zac was concerned, saying people were misunderstanding it.

The situation unfolded after Dylan and his partner, Daniella Karagach, received a score of 27 out of 30 on one of their semifinal dances. The cameras then showed Zac asking, “Is that a good score?” which some viewers thought meant he was asking if it was their best score of the night.

Dylan said he couldn’t quite remember the details, but he believed the person mentioned it was a fantastic dance. He remembered the person asking something along the lines of, ‘Was that the best possible score?’

He went on, “So I think he was more like, ‘That should’ve been higher,’ or something like that.”

Dylan mentioned that Zac Efron was upset by the misunderstanding and confusion online about what he actually said.

He said it was still amusing, though, because Zac reacted defensively, insisting, ‘They misunderstood what I was trying to say!’

Fans had been wondering for weeks why Zac hadn’t shown up to support Dylan in person, but Dylan wasn’t concerned when Zac finally appeared in the ballroom on November 18th.

Dylan told Extra after the October 21st episode that Zac had been a consistent source of support for him, even though they weren’t publicly showing it.

He’d shown his appreciation for Zac just the week before by performing “Rewrite The Stars,” a song he recorded with Zendaya for the movie The Greatest Showman.

During the October 14th episode, Dylan explained that his dance to ‘Rewrite the Stars’ was a tribute to his brother. He shared that his brother, Zac, has always been incredibly supportive and selfless, and Dylan hopes to provide the same level of care and be a positive role model for their sister, Olivia.
