Dylan O’Brien first gained recognition for his role as Stiles Stilinski on MTV’s Teen Wolf, and has since become a standout actor. He’s demonstrated his versatility in recent years, taking on diverse roles in films like The Maze Runner series, as well as more dramatic projects like Deepwater Horizon and American Assassin. O’Brien will soon appear in Sam Raimi’s Send Help, and audiences can also enjoy his highly praised 2025 dark comedy, currently streaming on Hulu.
James Sweeney’s critically acclaimed film, Twinless, a darkly comedic psychological thriller, became available on Hulu on January 16th. The film stars O’Brien alongside Sweeney, who plays both Roman and his deceased twin brother, Rocky. As Roman attends a support group for those who’ve lost a twin and connects with Dennis, their growing friendship is threatened by hidden secrets and a surprising link to Rocky’s death.
Twinless Is a Career-Best for Dylan O’Brien
O’Brien’s latest film, Twinless, has achieved a new personal best, receiving the highest ratings from both critics and audiences of any of his projects. It earned a “Certified Fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes with a 97% score from critics and a 94% audience score. The movie is a complex and memorable story that seamlessly blends humor, sadness, and unsettling moments, full of unexpected twists and deep emotion. Critic Matt Pais called it a unique and moving exploration of loneliness, grief, and empathy, and Jim Schembri praised it as an exceptional drama worthy of Oscar consideration.
Critics were particularly impressed with Dylan O’Brien’s performance, which earned him a Special Jury Award at the Sundance Film Festival. Many called it the best work of his career. He skillfully played two very different characters – the awkward Roman and the charming, but troubled, Rocky – proving he’s a versatile actor with a lot of potential. He fully immersed himself in the roles, powerfully portraying Roman’s grief, betrayal, and vulnerability. Matthew Koss of The Wandering Screen praised the film and O’Brien’s performance, calling it a deceptively simple movie that delivers one of the year’s most remarkable performances.
