Dynasty Warriors: Origins has been a major win for Koei Tecmo, successfully reviving the series after a period of decline.
So, it’s not really shocking to hear the producer, Tomohiko Sho, is thinking about making more games! And get this – he’s not just talking about one sequel, but multiple! He really wants to keep going with the Three Kingdoms story, and he wants to do it with the same level of detail and depth we got in Origins. As a player, that sounds amazing to me!
In a recent interview with Famitsu, translated by RPG Site, Sho was very open and honest about the situation.
He suggests that if they were to create a sequel, it could be a two-part story ending with the Battle of Wuzhang Plains. This battle has often been shown as the final conflict in previous Dynasty Warriors games.
The game Origins only tells the story of the Three Kingdoms up to the Battle of Chi Bi, which is an important early event. Because of this, a continuation of the story was expected.
Sho also hinted that a single sequel might not be sufficient, jokingly saying that if they kept the same level of detail as in Origin, it would be too much to cover everything leading up to the Battle of Wuzhang Plains.
That’s how, during development, I realized we’d likely need to turn it into three movies.
Origins offers the most detailed portrayal of the Three Kingdoms period seen in any Dynasty Warriors game. It carefully explains the complexities of each kingdom and the connections between its characters.
We understand Sho’s perspective – the decision now rests with Koei Tecmo. However, a sequel seems very likely, in addition to the ‘Visions of Four Heroes’ DLC releasing this week for PlayStation 5.
