We’ve been excited about Milestone’s anime-style racing game, Screamer, for months, but it’s hard to explain exactly how it plays.
This isn’t your typical arcade racing game. Instead of traditional steering, you’ll use the right stick to drift, and it features surprisingly deep combat mechanics inspired by Street Fighter – so expect a learning curve!
The Echo bar, always visible at the top of your screen, shows how well you’re managing both your defensive and offensive capabilities during a race. It’s split into two sections: Sync and Entropy.

The video will explain things best, but you earn Sync by performing actions in the game – things like shifting gears, using slipstreams, and drifting.
As a player, I’ve found that using Sync is great for either giving myself a quick power-up or protecting against attacks. Honestly, I prefer saving up a few shields instead of constantly boosting – it’s good to have some defense ready when you need it!
Using Sync charges up Entropy, which you can then use to knock out enemies or activate Overdrive – a powerful, unavoidable attack. However, be careful! Overdrive leaves you open to attack if you aren’t positioned well.
All these features come together to make this one of the most original and enjoyable racing games we’ve played in a long time. Add in a cast of distinct characters, each with their own driving style and special abilities, and you’ve got a truly competitive racing experience.
The team notes in the video that while the game is great to play alone, it becomes even more exciting when played with others online.
This is one of the games to look out for in 2026 in our opinion. Get it on your wishlist.
