EastEnders airs dark Lauren Beale and Mark Fowler twist as she’s attacked in early BBC iPlayer release

Lauren Beale (played by Jacqueline Jossa) is already facing problems with her new car lot business in EastEnders.

Lauren was worried when she found out Jay Brown was selling the showroom, as she feared losing her job. Luckily, after Cindy Beale convinced him, Lauren’s father, Max Branning, bought the showroom, saving her position.

It soon became clear that the two people involved had conflicting visions for how the operation would be carried out.

Max wanted to change the business name from ‘Square Dealz’ to ‘Maximum Motors’, but Lauren strongly disagreed. He also thought she was wasting her time trying to sell a showy old car, so she accepted his challenge to sell it within 24 hours.

What she didn’t bargain on was the car being stolen in a brutal robbery on Union Street.

Mark Fowler (Stephen Aaron-Sipple) initially expressed interest in test-driving the car, asking for a quick drive around the block. Lauren wasn’t comfortable letting him drive alone, but offered to go with him for a short ride later that day.

He told her to give him 30 minutes while he sorted something out and grabbed his licence.

On the drive home, Mark admitted he couldn’t actually buy the car and had only been test driving it for fun. Lauren was upset, feeling he’d wasted her time and made her miss her lunch break.

Mark went to a nearby cafe to get her a sandwich, hoping to make amends. He asked her to look at a crack in the car’s boot, but she assured him the car was fine. While she was inspecting it, a man suddenly attacked her, knocking her to the ground and stealing the keys.

He sped off into the distance as Mark cried out for him to stop.

Okay, so this movie… wow. It really stuck with me. We see Lauren absolutely devastated by how things unfolded, and Mark isn’t exactly thrilled either. There’s this incredibly tense scene on a dimly lit street – Edward Road, I think – where Mark does something completely unexpected: he actually thanks the guy who stole his car. But that gratitude quickly turns to rage when he realizes Lauren’s been hurt. It’s a really jarring moment, and honestly, it left me reeling. The contrast between his initial reaction and his fury is powerfully done.

It soon became clear he’d stolen the money to pay off a drug gang who had made him find a police informant among them. As fans of the BBC One drama know, that informant was Ravi Gulati (Aaron Thiara).

Okay, so Ravi clearly knew he was caught, and in a pretty calculated move, he baited Mark into a physical fight. But things escalated quickly – both families found out and immediately stepped in, telling Mark to back down and find a way to resolve things peacefully. It was a tense situation, and honestly, a bit predictable once Ravi tried to provoke him.

Luckily for Ravi, Phil Mitchell had a connection to the people he owed money to. They agreed to clear the debt if Mark could come up with £100,000.

Is Mark about to commit even more crimes to secure the cash?
