In the September 11, 2025 episode of EastEnders, Callum Highway (played by Tony Clay) delivered a significant statement.

Upon discovering his estranged father, Jonno (Richard Graham), engaging in a hateful attack against Eve Panesar-Unwin (Heather Peace), Callum found himself arresting him, leaving him in a state of inner conflict as he pondered the next steps to take.

As Charlie Suff, Johnny Carter – Callum’s intermittent love interest – stepped forward, I found myself seeking his counsel. His expertise in legal matters helped me navigate the complexities, aiming to determine if rebuilding a relationship with Callum was the right move for me.

While sharing a beer at The Queen Vic, Johnny casually mentioned that he belongs to the Carter family. Upon this revelation, Jonno requested that they arrange a meeting with Callum.

On the next day, Callum ran into his father-in-law Phil Mitchell (played by Steve McFadden). They talked about how Ben, Callum’s husband (portrayed by Max Bowden), responded to Jonno returning.

Ben strongly scolded Callum, showing obvious displeasure at the prospect of Jonno and Callum reconciling, since Jonno had subjected them to abhorrent insults regarding their sexuality.

or

Ben let Callum have it, expressing clear disappointment that Jonno and Callum might reconcile, as Jonno had spewed vile words at them about their sexual orientation.

or

Ben spoke sternly to Callum, making it clear that he was not in favor of a possible reconciliation between Jonno and Callum due to Jonno’s disgusting verbal attacks on their sexuality.

Callum anticipated that Phil would stay cold towards him following his relationship with Johnny, yet surprisingly, Phil showed understanding and even went as far as volunteering to handle things with Jonno on his behalf.

Instead, Callum chose to visit Jonno, and their encounter at the apartment was marked by a mix of emotional highs and lows, as their meeting turned out to be quite tense.

It turned out that Jonno had been hiding the fact that he was terminally ill, even though it was evident he had disregarded medical guidance to modify his way of life.

Upon discovering that Jonno was only after money, Callum hastily told his father to leave; however, Jonno soon suffered a heart attack.

Johnny was nearby all along and chose to stay with Jonno, as Callum went to get Doctor Anthony Trueman (Nicholas Bailey).

However, with his final gasps, Jonno implored Johnny to inform Callum of his regret and shame.

Or alternatively,

Just before Jonno passed away, he painfully requested Johnny to convey to Callum that he felt embarrassed by him.

In this situation, it fell upon Johnny to break the unfortunate news about Jonno’s passing to everyone, but when emotionally distraught Callum inquired if Jonno had said anything before he died, Johnny found it difficult to be truthful and instead fabricated a story that Jonno expressed his love for Callum and requested forgiveness.

Callum responded by going to kiss Johnny, but Johnny refused him, saying he was vulnerable.

However, when Callum emphasized that it wasn’t solely about his sorrow, and made clear what he desired, Johnny reciprocated with a kiss, and both men shed tears over the intense emotions of the day and their shared affections.

As Ben prepares to leave for home right before Jonno’s funeral to offer support to Callum, there’s a question of whether Callum might need to confess his deception then.
