At the conclusion of EastEnders’ thrilling double episode, there was a touching farewell scene on Albert Square, as two characters bid adieu.
When Jay Brown (Jamie Borthwick) discovered that Nigel Bates (Paul Bradley) was being sought by his anxious wife Julie (Karen Henthorn), he phoned her, and in a short span of time, she appeared to check on her cherished spouse.
For nearly three decades, I, much like Nigel, had cherished a contented existence alongside my partner, Julie. However, fate took an unexpected turn when I was diagnosed with dementia. To ensure that she would not shoulder the weight of my illness alone, I made the difficult decision to depart, sparing her the burden of my condition.
After discovering about Nigel’s health situation, Julie treated him tenderly and made it clear that he wasn’t a burden. However, she felt distressed when he didn’t recognize her and asked her to depart from the house where his longtime friend and caregiver Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) resided with him.
However, not long after, Nigel regretted his rudeness and remembered Julie’s preference for tea. As a result, Phil decided to prepare a cup of tea for Julie as a gesture of reconciliation.

In essence, Phil displayed a touching video from Nigel, specifically created for Julie, and it was clear to her at that moment that his feelings of love towards her remained unchanged.
Julie chose to bring Nigel back to Scotland with her, but Phil wasn’t going to let her simply whisk him off without permission.
Jay shared with Julie that Phil’s depression had worsened and his friendship with Nigel had grown stronger in the past few months. However, things reached a critical point when an argument between Phil and Julie caused distress to Nigel.
Nigel stepped outdoors, yet it was Julie who managed to soothe him, reassuring Nigel that it was alright he couldn’t recall every detail.
In a sincere conversation, Nigel eventually consented to depart with Julie, though Linda Carter (played by Kellie Bright) attempted to convince Phil to bid farewell, as this could potentially be his last opportunity to see Nigel.
Phil abstained from doing it, appearing disoriented and solitary in his kitchen, while Nigel and Julie departed in a black taxi.
But is this the last we’ve seen of the Bates?
Will Nigel and Julie Bates be back in EastEnders?

Thankfully, Nigel’s story is not over yet.
It’s been revealed that the soap opera EastEnders will show Nigel disappearing next week. As a result, Julie will look for Phil, because she suspects that if Nigel is anywhere, it might be with him.
Nigel will soon be found and there are more arguments between Julie and Phil.
However, as they both take on the role of caring for Nigel together, it makes us ponder if Julie and Nigel might be planning to stay longer.
Phil and Julie appear to have different opinions about what Nigel enjoys and dislikes, yet eventually Phil realizes it’s important for him to make a genuine attempt.
Given that Nigel’s health is expected to worsen, can Phil and Julie manage to find common ground during this trying time for their shared loved one?
