EastEnders has revealed a dramatic shooting will happen in 2027, and fans won’t have to wait too long to see it unfold.
A major time jump on New Year’s Day – moving the story exactly one year ahead – will focus on a significant period in the life of Max Branning (Jake Wood) and his family.
This follows Max being cut off from his family and friends after a turbulent couple of weeks in Walford.
He came back to find out he had a child, born five years ago to Linda Carter (Kellie Bright). To make matters worse, his own family had kept this secret from him the entire time.
After a fight with his brother Jack on Christmas Day, Ricky drowned his sorrows with Cindy Beale, and they ended up sleeping together. Neither of them realized who the other person was at the time.

Today on the show, Cindy’s ex-husband, Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt), tried to bribe Max with a large amount of money, hoping Max would leave Albert Square and begin a new life.
Max wasn’t willing to give up without trying, so he invited his children, Oscar and Lauren, for drinks at The Vic. He then promised them he would work on becoming a better dad.

I have to admit, I was starting to think maybe, just maybe, this guy was turning over a new leaf. But then Elaine Peacock burst onto the scene, accusing him of making a move on Linda the day before, and any hope of redemption went right out the window. It became crystal clear he hadn’t changed at all.
The Branning and Beale families were all together at Harry’s Barn to celebrate New Year’s 2026 when Max arrived with bad news for Ian: his scheme had failed, and he wasn’t going anywhere after all. Needless to say, no one was happy about it!

Watching the London fireworks, I found myself completely drawn into what the BBC soap was hinting at for its characters in 2026 and beyond. It wasn’t just the spectacle of the fireworks, but these little peeks into the future that really grabbed me – a clever way to build anticipation, honestly.
It was such a surprise! First, we got a glimpse of a tiny baby on the ultrasound, and then, unbelievably, a Rolls-Royce’s Spirit of Ecstasy showed up! It really makes you wonder… who is Max actually marrying?
Finally, a gloved hand aimed a gun. Are we about to see a death?
