EastEnders reveals Joel Marshall sentencing outcome as Vicki Fowler makes big decision in early BBC iPlayer release

EastEnders has shown what happened to Joel Marshall (Max Murray) after he was convicted of seriously harming someone, secretly watching them, and creating and sharing illegal images of a child.

I was in the courtroom today, and honestly, it was disturbing. Even after hearing incredibly powerful and heartbreaking testimony from Vicki Fowler, played by Alice Haig, and Avani Nandra-Hart, portrayed by Aaliyah James, the defendant just didn’t seem to grasp the gravity of what he’d done. He showed absolutely no remorse, which was frankly shocking to witness.

Vicki became overwhelmed and left the courtroom crying, worried her attacker wouldn’t be held accountable for what he did. As many remember, she had been severely assaulted and left for dead.

Despite secretly recording videos of them together and later criticizing her, Avani felt reassured enough to return to court and confront Joel about their situation.

Joel laughed at Avani while she was speaking to the court, and explained that his father and Vicki had repeatedly let him down. He claimed they had even paid off one of his previous victims, setting a bad example that made it difficult for him to distinguish between right and wrong.

The judge had some unexpected news when it was time to announce her decision: Joel had changed his plea and admitted guilt.

Although Vicki felt a little relieved, she was deeply upset that the relationship had ended so badly. She was also anxious about his upcoming sentencing and how it could affect her future with her fiancé, Ross Marshall (Alex Walkinshaw).

In today’s episode, he returned from hearing how long Joel would be sentenced for.

Vicki was anxious to hear the news, and she began to cry when Ross told her he’d been sentenced to six months in a young offenders institution. It wasn’t a long sentence, and everyone knew he’d likely return to Walford after he got out.

Ross felt responsible for repairing his relationship with his son, helping him rejoin society, and preventing future mistakes. However, Vicki believed this meant Joel would ultimately create more distance between them.

She offered to collaborate with Ross to support Joel, acknowledging that she couldn’t avoid the coming difficulties.

Vicki hadn’t considered where Joel would live, but she assured him they would figure it out together.
