EastEnders star Nicholas Bailey breaks silence after Anthony Trueman killed off in grisly murder

Actor Nicholas Bailey has spoken about his explosive exit from EastEnders.

On Christmas Day, the BBC One soap opera featured a shocking turn of events when Anthony was killed after a heated argument with his ex-girlfriend, Zoe Slater (Michelle Ryan). The fight stemmed from Zoe revealing she had kept the existence of their twin children a secret from him.

Zoe then had an emotional reunion with her daughter, Jasmine Fisher (Indeyarna Donaldson-Holness), who everyone believed had died. It was revealed that Jasmine had been deliberately causing Zoe distress, encouraged by the return of Zoe’s long-time enemy, Chrissie Watts (Tracy-Ann Oberman).

Zoe turned herself in to the police regarding Anthony’s death, but evidence suggests she wasn’t responsible for it.

The Boxing Day episode concluded with Jasmine successfully convincing Kat Moon (Jessie Wallace) that Chrissie was the most likely suspect in the murder.

It doesn’t matter what happened or who was involved, my heart breaks for Patrick Trueman. He’s lost another son, and it’s just devastating to see him go through this again.

How did it feel to film Anthony’s dramatic departure from the show, especially with everything else happening during his last few days?

Being part of a Christmas storyline on a soap is a big deal, so I was really honored to have one, especially with a dramatic exit on Christmas Day! It was definitely sad leaving, as I felt so comfortable and at home since returning to EastEnders. The storyline was fantastic, and it gave me a lot more to work with than I anticipated. It’s been wonderful pushing myself and performing some really memorable scenes with great dialogue.

Did you expect Anthony to go down such a dark path?

I was completely shocked when our producer, Ben Wadey, explained what was about to happen. But looking back, I think it was a brilliant move. Anthony had always been someone who bottled up his emotions, and eventually, they were bound to explode. This time, he just couldn’t hold it in anymore!

How did you feel to say goodbye to Anthony after so many years?

It’s bittersweet to leave EastEnders, but I’m excited for what the future holds for the show, especially leading up to 2026. I truly love EastEnders and want to see it succeed. While I’m sad to see my character, Anthony, go, I’m glad his exit will create some fantastic opportunities for the other actors.

Bailey said he was most thankful for the chance to come back and work with Rudolph Walker, Jessie Wallace, and Michelle Ryan again. He was especially pleased to be reunited with Michelle Ryan, as he hadn’t known she would be involved when he first agreed to return.
