Thomas Law, who plays Peter Beale on EastEnders, hinted that there’s still drama to come between his character and Max Branning, suggesting their story isn’t over yet.
Max Branning (Jake Wood) will be back in EastEnders next week, arriving just as his daughter Lauren (Jacqueline Jossa) is about to unexpectedly marry Peter.
As viewers of the BBC soap opera are aware, Max has been locked in a long-running conflict with the Beale family. He was wrongly accused of murdering Lucy Beale by them in 2015, before it was revealed that her half-brother, Bobby Beale, was the actual killer.
Cindy Beale holds Max responsible for the death of their eldest son, Steven, who died following a fight with Max in 2017.
When asked about the relationship between Peter and Max when Max returns, actor Chris Law explained to Digital Spy that there’s still tension between them. He said their first interaction is pleasant, but Max comes back at a really difficult moment.
He added that he believes this was a one-time instance of politeness between the two, as Max has hurt Peter’s family in the past, creating tension between the Beale and Branning families. He hopes this conflict continues, as it adds excitement to the show.

As a huge movie fan, I’m really intrigued by what Jamie Law hinted about Peter’s arc! Apparently, now that Max is back in the picture, Peter’s driven by a desire for revenge – not just for things Max did to Lucy, but also for stuff that happened to him when he was a kid. It sounds like there’s a lot of history there, and Peter’s definitely not letting it go.
Peter has a few things that are bothering him about Max, and if Max keeps it up, he’s going to face consequences. Also, it was great playing with Jake.
News came out in July that Jake Wood would be reprising his role on the show. He shared his excitement, saying he was thrilled to be returning to Walford as Max, and that Max has plenty of unfinished business with several characters, promising lots of storylines.
I’m really curious to see what this character has been doing and where his story goes next. Knowing his history over the past fifteen years, I expect things will get pretty dramatic!
Producer Ben Wadey expressed his excitement about Jake Wood returning to play Max Branning, calling him immensely talented.
Although he’s only been gone from Albert Square for four years, a lot has changed in Walford and for the people who live there.
Max has a lot to resolve, and it’s uncertain if his family will accept him back. Given his complicated history, many people in Walford won’t be happy about his return, which is sure to bring the Branning family and plenty of drama back to the forefront this year.
