EastEnders star warns of “scary” and “upsetting” scenes for Joel and Vicki in dark storyline

Alice Haig, who plays a character on EastEnders, has revealed that a storyline involving Joel Marshall’s problematic behavior towards women is about to become quite disturbing and frightening.

Since arriving in Albert Square earlier this year, the teenage boy (played by Max Murray) has consistently caused problems. His actions, including several serious offenses, online harassment of Stacey Slater, and threatening behavior towards his stepmother Vicki Fowler (Alice Haig), have been deeply worrying.

Haig, who plays Vicki, told The Mirror at the Inside Soap Awards that viewers will soon see a storyline with Joel that will be very upsetting for her character.

That’s all I have to say on the matter. It’s a difficult and troubling situation, but I don’t have anything further to add. Despite everything, I’m optimistic about the future.

Haig expressed hope that the storyline about Joel’s harmful beliefs will empower parents, young people, or anyone affected by online negativity to address the issue with a child or loved one and find a path forward.

We’re all really frustrated with Joel, and it’s tempting to lash out, but that won’t help. We need to have a calm conversation with him instead.

This week’s episodes will show a troubling development in the story about mistreatment of women, with a worrying situation involving Joel and his friend Tommy Moon (Sonny Kendall).

Okay, so Vicki, Ross, Kat, and Alfie all tried to have a serious talk with their sons about what happened, but it quickly went south. Things got really heated, and unfortunately, Joel actually lashed out and hit Vicki. It was a shocking moment, honestly.

New episodes will air alongside a special documentary made by the EastEnders team, which explores the story of the character Joel in more detail.

EastEnders Investigates: The Manosphere will delve into the issues brought up by Joel’s storyline about his dislike of women, and look at how the ‘manosphere’ – online communities promoting certain views about masculinity – is affecting young people in the UK.

Diane Parish, Max Murray, and Ellie Dadd will host the documentary. Their characters – Denise Fox, Joel Marshall, and Amy Mitchell – will also be key players in the soap opera’s plot this week.

A special EastEnders episode titled ‘The Manosphere’ will be available on BBC Three and iPlayer starting Thursday, October 9th at 8pm.
