At the National Television Awards 2025, it was declared that EastEnders emerged victorious in the ‘Best Soap’ category.
In the Serial Drama category, the BBC One soap emerged victorious among a total of four other competing shows, including Emmerdale, Hollyoaks, Coronation Street, and Casualty.
Upon receiving the award, Rudolph Walker – star of the show – expressed that the team working behind the scenes was like “the most joyful family one could find on TV.” He further elaborated, “The proof is clearly visible in the content you all watch on your screens.
At the conclusion of his talk, he playfully hinted at the fate of the soap, expressing: “As for us, this remarkable group, keep an eye on this spot!
On this memorable night, the soap triumphantly won an award, adding the Serial Drama Performance Award to its list of accolades. The honor in the acting category went to Steve McFadden, who portrays Phil Mitchell on the show. This recognition was a testament to his powerful portrayal of mental health issues this year, particularly in relation to his character’s emotional support for Nigel Bates (Paul Bradley), who is dealing with dementia.
In 2023, EastEnders received an award that they had also won previously, but in 2022 and 2024, the honor went to Emmerdale instead. Just like the other awards, the decision for this category is based solely on public voting.

Following its 40th anniversary celebration earlier this year, the soap has recently achieved victory. Over the course of a week, the show featured dramatic events at the Queen Victoria pub and the emotional departure of Martin Fowler, played by James Bye, who was the initial baby born on the soap.
At the same time, several actors made brief appearances or stayed longer, such as Ross Kemp and Anita Dobson. Their characters, Ross as Grant Mitchell and Anita as Angie Watts, had significant roles, with Angie appearing to her daughter Sharon in a vision.

2025 marked a shift in leadership at EastEnders, as Chris Clenshaw, the long-standing executive producer, concluded his tenure. His last episode was broadcast on June 13, 2025.
As a die-hard fan, I find myself thrilled about the recent developments behind the scenes of my beloved show. Ben Wadey, our new maestro, has boldly stepped into the role as executive producer, and now, he’s skillfully orchestrating storylines that have me on the edge of my seat! One such development includes a long-awaited reunion between Kat Moon, portrayed by Jessie Wallace, and Zoe Slater, brought to life by Michelle Ryan. This is an exciting turn of events for any fan like myself!
