Tracy-Ann Oberman had a very busy day! The EastEnders actress finished filming her most recent scenes, and then received an MBE from King Charles at a ceremony at Windsor Castle. She originally mistook the notification for a parking ticket!
It arrived in a very official-looking brown envelope, and my first thought was, ‘Oh no!’” the celebrity joked to TopMob.
My husband asked what I’d been up to, and I worried I’d forgotten to pay a bill. When I checked, I was thrilled to discover I’d been awarded an MBE by The King in his Birthday Honours list.

Over her thirty-year career, Oberman has received many awards, not just honors related to chivalry. She’s earned accolades ranging from best actress and best newcomer to the somewhat less prestigious ‘Soap Bitch of the Year’ award, which she’s won twice for her role as the manipulative Chrissie Watts.
Recent episodes have shown she remains one of the best villains in the genre.
Chrissie returned to Walford after being contacted by her ex-boyfriend, Jake Moon, who was trying to trick her into admitting she’d murdered Anthony Trueman. However, the audience knew she hadn’t actually done it.

Teenager Jasmine Fisher, who was having a difficult time, hit a man over the head with a salt lamp and then let her mother, Zoe Slater, take the blame.
Chrissie desperately argued she’d already been punished for killing her husband, Den, and didn’t want to spend the rest of her life in prison. This led Kat to the heartbreaking conclusion that she would have to report her own granddaughter to the police.

Tonight on the show, Jake attempted to convince Chrissie he was still dedicated to their relationship, even though he was willing to betray her to protect himself.
Oberman believes there’s a point in the story where the character feels her relationship with Jake is finished. She feels he’s broken her trust, as he was the one person she always depended on.
I’ve always admired their bond – it’s been a really powerful connection for so long. They’re truly each other’s family, and honestly, I don’t think she’ll ever fully move past that. It’s just too deep.

Hoping to save their relationship, Jake asked for an hour to try and fix things, giving her time to wander around her old neighborhood. While out walking, she unexpectedly ran into Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins).
“It’s a really nice, sweet little scene where like-meets-like,” Oberman added.
It’s fascinating to think about how different their relationship could have been. They could have been incredibly close, or completely at odds with each other, under different circumstances.
Chrissie anxiously watched for Jake’s return to The Square. If he’d been any later, she likely would have reported him to the police for the accidental death of his brother, Danny, which happened twenty years prior.

However, in a shock twist, he swiftly opened a ring box, and asked her to become Mrs Moon.
Oberman explained that Chrissie’s personal philosophy has always been a very direct, ‘tit-for-tat’ approach – essentially, if you harm her, you’ll face the consequences yourself.
She intended to confront Jake and make his life difficult, but he unexpectedly did something sweet and romantic that completely changed the situation.
As wedding preparations continued, Chrissie received a disturbing sign – police sirens were heard throughout East London. She worried Jasmine had reported her for the attacks on Zoe from the previous year. There wasn’t time to think; she and Jake needed to leave immediately.
But is this the last we’ve seen of her? Oberman hopes not.

I’m really hoping they choose to have their wedding back at The Vic – it would be amazing! They’ve decided to rent the whole place out, but honestly, nobody even knows what their wedding is going to be like yet. I just want them to be happy and if that means celebrating at The Vic, I’d be thrilled.
It was wonderful having Joel back. We all loved the scenes they filmed together – they have a really great connection. They’re a unique and compelling pair, both as actors and as a couple. It makes you wonder what might happen with them!
I regularly chat with Ben Wadey, the executive producer – he’s fantastic. I’ve really been enjoying Chrissie’s return to the show, and I like being able to work on it when I can. There’s a lot of potential for future storylines.
You know, I’ve been thinking about Chrissie and The Square. She just can’t seem to leave it behind. It’s like something is really drawing her back there, and honestly, it’s got me hooked too – there’s just something about that place that feels…significant.

Currently, the actress is going back to her stage beginnings with a new version of Noël Coward’s Present Laughter. She’s playing Geri Essendine, a fresh take on the Garry character from the original, funny play written in 1942.
Although the Theatre Royal in Bath won’t reopen until August, director Oberman is optimistic about how audiences will react. She previously directed a successful adaptation of The Merchant of Venice in 1936, notably playing the first female Shylock, and the production transferred to London’s West End twice.
I’ve reworked another hilarious play! This time, I’ve switched the gender of the main character – the troublemaking lead is now female instead of male.
I’m so excited for people to finally see this! It’s going to tour the country, and I really hope everyone gets a chance to see it. If you’re a fan of Chrissie, you’ll definitely enjoy this character.
