EigenLayer X account compromised, shares malicious airdrop link

As a seasoned crypto investor with over a decade of experience navigating the digital frontier, I can confidently say that such incidents are all too familiar in this wild west of finance. The recent compromise of EigenLayer’s X account and the ensuing fake airdrop campaign is just another reminder of the need for vigilance and skepticism in our industry.

EigenLayer’s X account has been compromised, as it displayed a fake airdrop campaign.

In my recent exploration of Eigenlayer’s X account on October 18th, I stumbled upon an exciting development – a fresh airdrop initiative aimed at those who qualified for the earlier campaign.

Instead, the link provided in the airdrop announcement led users to a potentially harmful site, seemingly disconnected from the staking process.

EigenLayer’s post on X was swiftly removed shortly after it was shared, hinting that possibly the hackers might have misplaced control over the protocol’s account.

As a crypto investor, I recently received a warning from pseudonymous on-chain investigator ZachXBT regarding a potentially harmful airdrop link. In a recent post on Telegram, he cautioned users to be wary of such links due to their potential malicious nature.

“Eigenlayer X/Twitter account is currently compromised do not click any links.”

Given EigenLayer’s widespread usage, it’s possible that a significant number of users may have already clicked on the suspicious link. Notably, EigenLayer ranks second among Ethereum protocols, with over $11.1 billion in total value locked (TVL), based on data from DeFiLlama.
