Elijah Wood Makes Rare Comments About Dad Life With His 2 Kids

Elijah Wood is ringing in his kids’ latest chapter.

The Lord of the Rings actor recently shared a glimpse into his life as a father to his two young children, a 6-year-old son and a 4-year-old daughter, whom he shares with his wife, Mette-Marie Kongsved. He says he’s really enjoying this stage of their lives.

He told The Times in an interview on March 6th that his children had grown out of being toddlers and were now fully kids, describing it as “incredible.”

Although the children are growing quickly, their father, 45-year-old Elijah, doesn’t believe they’re old enough to watch the famous Peter Jackson fantasy films that made him well-known.

He shared that his children haven’t seen it yet, but explained it’s simply because he doesn’t believe they’re ready for it. He thinks it will be suitable for them when they turn eight.

Recently, Elijah and Mette-Marie have also shared some classic movies with their children, including The Wizard of Oz and Jumanji. Elijah noted that Jumanji was much more frightening and intense than he recalled from his own childhood.

Family movie nights are just one of the many joys of being a parent that Elijah has grown to love. He’s even mentioned that the COVID-19 pandemic had some surprising upsides as he became a new dad.

He shared with The Guardian in 2021 that a positive outcome of the pandemic was the chance to fully experience being a father. His son was born just before lockdowns began, allowing his family an extended, uninterrupted period of time together – something he knows they likely won’t have again.

And while times have certainly changed, Elijah’s feelings about raising a family haven’t.

“I love being a father,” he added. “It’s all-consuming and it’s everything.”
