Eliza Dushku, famous for playing Faith Lehane on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, has finally addressed rumors about returning to acting. Many fans remember her as the strong-willed Faith, a character introduced in the third season of Buffy. She was so well-received that plans for a spin-off series focused on Faith were considered in the mid-2000s.
The planned Buffy spinoff didn’t happen, as Dushku opted for a different TV series. She continued acting in movies and television until 2017. Since then, she’s dedicated herself to mental health advocacy and psychedelic therapy, becoming a certified therapist specializing in trauma. She also earned a master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling from Lesley University.
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Eliza Dushku discussed her current work, including her role as an executive producer on the Netflix documentary In Waves and War. When asked if she misses acting, the Bring It On and Dollhouse star said she doesn’t, explaining that she enjoyed her 25-year career but is now happy to be moving forward with a new direction in life.
I’m often asked if I ever look back with longing, and the answer is no. It wasn’t an unfulfilling life – I enjoyed it for 25 years, and I appreciate the experiences and people I met along the way. I feel like that chapter of my life has shaped who I am, and now I’m excited to be living this new, equally rewarding one.
When asked if she considers her acting career over, Dushku says she won’t act on camera again unless it directly supports her current work and passions. She explains that the new Netflix documentary is meaningful because it lets her raise awareness about current and important issues.
I’m not planning to appear on camera again unless it’s to promote my current work, which I’m really passionate about. That’s what makes this film so meaningful – it allows me to highlight the stories of people like Marcus and Amber, who are featured in it. It’s a very important and relevant film, and I hope it reaches as many people as possible.
The documentary In Waves and War follows Navy SEAL Marcus Capone’s journey with PTSD after his service in Afghanistan, and how psychedelic therapy aided his recovery. The film also represents a return to public life for actress Eliza Dushku, who shared her experiences with sexual harassment while working on the CBS show Bull. That role was her last major acting appearance.
Fans are excited about the possibility of a Buffy sequel series on Hulu, and momentum is building. If the show gets picked up, Sarah Michelle Gellar will return as Buffy Summers and also help produce it. It’s currently unknown if any other original cast members from Buffy the Vampire Slayer will be involved. However, many fans still hope to see Eliza Dushku reprise her role as Faith, even after twenty years, thanks to the character’s lasting impact despite appearing in a limited number of episodes.
