Speculation about mutants joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) following “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Secret Wars” continues to circulate. Although the team from Fox’s X-Men series is expected to be the primary cast in future Avengers movies, it appears that the X-Men will play a significant role in the next stage of the MCU. Since then, there has been a flurry of rumors regarding potential casting choices. Names like Giancarlo Esposito as Charles Xavier or Denzel Washington as Magneto have been thrown around, and it’s even widely believed that Hugh Jackman will continue to portray Wolverine for now. However, it should be noted that these castings are all speculative at this point.
Previously considered for an X-Men role prior to the Fox merger was actress Elle Fanning, who is currently gaining attention in “Death Stranding 2: On the Beach” and may appear as Jean Grey when the X-Men officially debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As reported by Jeff Sneider on the Hot Mic podcast with John Rocha, Fanning is once again in contention for the role, along with Margaret Qualley, Daisy Edgar Jones, and Sadie Sink, according to Sneider. The actress from “Predator: Badlands” is being considered for the part of Jean Grey in the new X-Men class within the MCU.
Back in the day, I was hopeful that I might land the role in X-Men: Apocalypse, but it eventually went to Sophie Turner. The reason? A significant disparity in our social media presence seems to have played a key role. Despite Sansa Stark of Game of Thrones fame praising Turner as a superior actress, she still managed to come out on top.
As a passionate cinephile, I shared my dreams of joining the silver screen by auditioning for a project back in 2023. Unfortunately, I didn’t land the role, although it might not have been solely because of this reason, as suggested during an interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. The feedback I received pointed towards my relatively low Instagram following at the time being a contributing factor. Nonetheless, I stand by my belief that talent should outweigh social media popularity, especially when it comes to larger franchise productions.
Turner also appeared to share some intriguing details about the movies X-Men: Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix, stating: “I tried out for a project, and there was another actress who was significantly more talented than me. However, I had more followers, so I landed the role. It’s not fair, but it’s become common practice in the film industry.
According to previous interviews, Marvel Studios’ leader Kevin Feige has revealed they are following a 10-year plan focusing on Marvel’s mutants. This upcoming phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is sometimes called the “Mutant Chronicles,” expanding upon the foundation laid by the Multiverse and Infinity Sagas. We won’t get a true glimpse of mutants collaborating with the existing MCU characters until next year.
