The detective drama ‘Ellis’ was a hit with audiences when it first aired in 2024, and now it’s coming back for a second season! We finally have the official release date.
The new season begins on Tuesday, March 10th at 9pm with the first episode. The second episode will air the very next day, on Wednesday, March 11th.
TopMob was the first to get a preview of the new series, and a trailer has been released showcasing some of the cases DCI Ellis, played by Sharon D Clarke, will be investigating this season.
You can watch the trailer right here now.
The upcoming season will have four episodes, with each case explored over two episodes. Clarke will be back as the lead, joined again by Andrew Gower as DS Chet Harper and Charlotte McCurry as DC Kate Trent.
Let me tell you, the cast list for this next installment is seriously impressive. We’ve got James Doran, Niamh Blackshaw, and Cariad Lloyd returning, and they’re joined by some fantastic new faces like Keir Charles, Mark Addy, Stephen Tompkinson, and even Sonny Ashbourne Serkis. It’s shaping up to be a real ensemble piece, and I’m excited to see how they all play off each other.

Following her successes in the first season, Detective Chief Inspector Ellis is sent to investigate troubled cases throughout northern England. Alongside Harper, she tackles a series of complex investigations involving close-knit communities and mysterious deaths, pushing her skills and determination to the limit.
The series begins in a quiet village, where the unexpected death of a respected figure stirs up old grudges. It then moves to a gritty industrial town, where the death of a young woman uncovers a secret system of control and abuse. Each investigation reveals more about the secrets, desires, and betrayals hidden beneath the surface.
You can now preview a collection of photos from all four episodes of the new season.

After the first season of Ellis proved very popular, 5 renewed the show for a second season. Paul Testar, a commissioning editor at 5, expressed excitement about Sharon D Clarke and Andrew Gower returning to play their roles, and said they were eager to bring the detective pair back to viewers next year.
Ellis season 2 will air on Tuesday 10 March and Wednesday 11 March at 9pm on 5.
I’m really excited about Ellis and I’ve added them to my watchlist on the TopMob: What to Watch app! You should download it too – it gives you daily TV recommendations and all sorts of cool features.
