Ellis star teases episode 3 that “throws spanners”: “It alludes to Harper’s history”

This week, the second season of Ellis continues with new episodes that will reveal more about Harper’s (Andrew Gower) past.

When asked about the rest of the season, Gower shared with TopMob that the next episode is particularly strong, hinting at a deeper look into his and Harper’s past, and potentially revealing more about his family than ever before. He noted that Sharon Clarke would likely agree.

It’s great to revisit a community I already know and have a connection to. I really appreciate it when a TV show continues to reveal new things about its characters, even after many episodes – I find that really engaging.

As a film fan, I always love hearing about how actors connect with a role, and Gower explained it really resonated with him. He said knowing the backstory – specifically that the setting, a slate quarry, was tied to a family he’d worked with before – gave him a lot to build on, both for understanding what had already happened in the story and for figuring out where his character was headed next. It really helped fuel his performance!

The characters’ journeys are often complex, with ongoing tests and relationship difficulties that create constant obstacles. It’s been thrilling to follow their development, and viewers can expect plenty more surprises and challenges ahead.

Throughout the show, we’ve learned more about Ellis and her relationship with her daughter, Grace. However, Harper’s personal life remains a mystery. Fans will likely be happy to finally get some insight into his background. But, as always, the detectives’ main focus is the current case – and this week’s investigation looks particularly challenging.

The small village of Elmsly is stunned when university student Abi Marshall dies in an accident involving falling scaffolding at Quinn Artisan Stone, a major local construction company. Her unexpected death deeply affects the community, as she was known as a promising and popular young woman.

Elliot Quinn, the owner, claims the incident was a tragic accident and seems worried about how it will look for his company. However, Ellis suspects something isn’t right. The security camera that should have captured the collapse wasn’t working, and Abi’s injuries don’t seem consistent with a fall, leading Ellis to believe the ‘accident’ was actually planned.

The second season of Ellis again stars Sharon D Clarke and Gower as detectives Ellis and Harper. They’ve found their rhythm as a team after facing challenges in the first season. This season’s case involves the murder of a local businessman, with a surprising twist and some exciting stunt work for Gower.

So, will we see more of that in the next episodes? Honestly, we’ll just have to tune in and find out. It’s a wait-and-see situation, and I, for one, am curious to see where they take it.
