Email Rob Reiner’s Wife Michele Allegedly Sent Before Murders Revealed

One of Michele Reiner’s final conversations has come to light.

Just hours before she and her husband, Rob Reiner, were found dead at their Los Angeles home on December 14th, the activist sent an email to Nanon Williams, a prisoner appealing his murder conviction. The couple had become close friends with Williams after seeing a play called Lyrics From Lockdown in 2016—the play was based on letters he wrote while in prison.

According to NBC News, just two days before their bodies were found, the Reiners – whose son, Nick Reiner, was officially charged with their murders on December 16th – went to a play with friends Billy and Janice Crystal, and members of Williams’ family. Michele detailed the evening in a message to Williams, which he received on his state-issued tablet.

In an email from December 13th, she mentioned she hoped I’d heard from Tera, Williams’ wife, and said the show the night before was fantastic.

Michele shared hope that Williams, currently serving a life sentence without parole for the 1992 murder of Adonius Collier (originally sentenced to death), would eventually get to see the production, telling him they all looked forward to watching it together.

She ended the email writing, “Hope you’re doing well, Love you—Michele.”

In a recent interview with NBC News, Williams – who continues to claim he didn’t commit the crime – described how the Reiners had become very close to him over the past ten years, saying they felt like family.

Oh my gosh, it wasn’t just Rob and Michele, you guys! Their daughter, Romy Reiner, was at the event with them, and she said he basically became part of the family! It’s just… so sweet! And it makes sense, you know? They were such a close-knit group. Romy has a brother, Jake, and Rob even shared a daughter, Tracy, with the amazing Penny Marshall – sadly, she’s no longer with us, but what a legacy! It just proves how deeply he touched everyone around him.

She continued, explaining that her parents always spoke of him with great affection. He’d taught her valuable life lessons and shown her more kindness than anyone else she knew.

Oh my gosh, I can’t believe this! Nick, he’s… he’s facing two counts of first-degree murder! And it’s not just that, it’s with this ‘special circumstance’ thing, meaning if he’s found guilty, he could get life in prison without ever getting out, or even… the death penalty! I’ve been following this case so closely, and he hasn’t even said if he’s guilty or not yet. They’re saying he’ll be in court on January 7th, and I have to be there. It’s just… unbelievable.

Long before Rob and Michele Singer Reiner passed away, their son, Nick Reiner, openly discussed his struggles with addiction. He even worked with his father on the 2015 film Being Charlie, which focused on the topic of substance abuse.

Nick explained that he had been to rehab 17 times before turning 30.

I remember reading an interview with him in People magazine back in 2016, and his story really stuck with me. He shared that he’d experienced homelessness in multiple states – Maine, New Jersey, and Texas, he said. He described actually living on the streets, sometimes for weeks at a time, and he was very clear – it was a really tough time for him, definitely not enjoyable.

Two years later, Nick recalled an instance when he “wrecked” his home while high on drugs.

Oh my god, you won’t BELIEVE this story he told on the Dopey podcast back in 2018! He said he basically went crazy in his guest house, boxing everything in sight. Apparently, he was totally wired – he thinks it was coke, maybe something else too – and couldn’t sleep for days! He just started punching things, just completely lost it. It’s insane, but honestly, it just makes me love him more – it shows how raw and real he is!

According to multiple sources at Conan O’Brien’s Christmas party on December 13th, director Rob Reiner and his 32-year-old son, Nick, had a significant argument. Friends of the family later confirmed the fight to the L.A. Times, adding that guests observed Nick behaving unusually during the holiday celebration.

According to two people familiar with the event, Nick was causing a disturbance at the party by interrupting people and being disruptive during conversations.

Jane Fonda saw Rob and Michele the night before their tragic deaths.

The actress shared on Instagram on December 15th that she had seen them two nights prior, and they seemed happy and well. She added that she is devastated and in shock.

On December 14th, around 3:40 p.m., the Los Angeles Police Department was called to a home in Brentwood, California, to investigate a death following a Christmas party.

According to a police statement, officers found two people inside the home, later identified as Robert and Michele Reiner.

The Robbery Homicide Division’s Homicide Special Section began investigating how the deaths occurred.

According to NBC News, Deputy Police Chief Alan Hamilton stated that investigators will be speaking with many family members. Rob Reiner and his wife have three children: Nick, Romy, and Jake. Rob also adopted the daughter of his late ex-wife, Penny Marshall, named Tracy.

Rob and Michele didn’t die from natural causes; they appeared to have been stabbed, according to a source close to the Reiner family who spoke with NBC News.

According to the LAPD, the initial investigation revealed that the Reiners were victims of homicide.

During the police investigation, video footage showed Nick buying a Gatorade at an ARCO gas station in downtown Los Angeles, near USC, around 9 p.m. on December 14th. He was wearing a green jacket, jeans, and a ballcap, and carrying a red backpack, according to footage obtained by MS NOW.

Minutes later, the screenwriter was taken into custody near USC.

I still can’t believe it. The police… they actually said it. They officially determined that Rob and Michele’s own son… he’s the one who did it. He’s responsible for what happened to them. It just… it doesn’t seem real. I’ve followed their story for years, and to hear it’s their son… it’s devastating. Absolutely devastating.

Police announced they arrested Nick Reiner around 9:15 p.m. on December 15th. He has been charged with murder and is being held in jail without the possibility of bail.

Michelle Obama shared on Jimmy Kimmel Live on December 15th that she and Barack Obama had plans to meet with Rob and Michele on the day they tragically passed away.

On December 16th, criminal defense lawyer Alan Jackson, known for previously representing high-profile clients like Harvey Weinstein, Kevin Spacey, and Karen Read, confirmed to TopMob News that he is now representing Nick, who was arrested two days prior in connection with his parents’ murder.

On December 16th, as authorities were preparing to publicly charge Nick at a Los Angeles courthouse, his lawyer informed the press that he hadn’t been given medical approval to appear in court.

According to reports, officials stated that all inmates require medical approval before being taken to court. They expressed hope that the individual in question would receive this clearance by tomorrow, allowing him to be brought in.

As a lifestyle expert, I’m following this developing story closely. Just yesterday, Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman announced that his office will be formally charging Nick with a very serious crime: two counts of first-degree murder, and because more than one person was killed, it’s considered a special circumstance, meaning potentially harsher penalties.

The District Attorney also stated that Nick will be charged with an additional allegation: personally using a deadly weapon – a knife – during the attack on his parents.

As a longtime follower of this case, I was shocked to hear that the charges against him could result in either life in prison with no chance of parole, or even the death penalty. It’s a truly serious situation.

Nick was formally charged Dec. 16.

Police believe Rob and Michele were likely killed about 12 hours before their bodies were found around 3 p.m. on December 14th.

According to a press release on December 16th, the district attorney stated the murders happened around dawn on December 14th.

According to a press release from the District Attorney on December 16th, Nick is accused of killing his parents by stabbing them. Authorities allege he used a knife as the weapon in the murders.

Nick made his first court appearance on December 17th at the Los Angeles Supreme Court. He was wearing a blue garment designed to prevent self-harm and was in shackles. He didn’t enter a plea at this time, but scheduled an arraignment for January 7th.

On December 17th, the medical examiner concluded that both Rob and Michele died from multiple cuts and stabs – injuries caused by a sharp object.
