Okay, so as a big fan of these games, I just heard some pretty big news! Embracer Group is selling off Arc Games and Cryptic Studios to a company called Project Golden Arc. The deal is worth around $30 million, which is… a lot! The good news for me is that Embracer is keeping the rights to Remnant, which I absolutely love, and they’ll also still have Fellowship for now, but they’re planning to move that over to their Coffee Stain Group team eventually. It’s a bit of a shakeup, but hopefully, it’s a good thing for everyone involved and means we’ll keep getting awesome games!
According to Embracer Group CEO Phil Rogers, the deal primarily aims to strengthen the company’s financial position without sacrificing its focus on key game franchises.
According to Rogers, this deal helps Embracer concentrate on its most important games and technologies, ultimately boosting profits and cash flow. It also means the online multiplayer game Fellowship, created by a skilled team in Stockholm, will now be part of Coffee Stain Group. Rogers expressed gratitude to the teams at Arc and Cryptic for their efforts over the last four years and wishes them continued success in the future.
Arc Games has been acquired by Project Golden Arc, which is led by the existing Arc Games management team. Project Golden Arc’s published titles include popular games like Remnant: From The Ashes, Remnant 2, Torchlight, Hyper Light Breaker, and their newest release, Fellowship. Additionally, Cryptic Studios has a history of collaboration with Arc Games, having previously developed the MMORPGs Star Trek Online and Neverwinter for them.
It’s unclear what the future holds for many of Embracer Group’s games, but development will continue on one title, Fellowship. Chief Rebel studio, with a team of about 35 people, will continue working on the game, which launched in Early Access on Steam last October.
Back in May, Embracer Group announced plans to separate Coffee Stain Group into its own company. Following this change, Embracer Group will become Fellowship Entertainment. The new, independent Coffee Stain Group will include around 250 employees and several game studios like Tuxedo Labs, Ghost Ship, and Amplifier Game Investment. It will also own popular game franchises such as Deep Rock Galactic, Goat Simulator, and Satisfactory, among others.
After officially becoming Fellowship Entertainment, Embracer Group intends to become a full-service entertainment company, creating and publishing games, and developing original stories that can expand into other areas like merchandise, comics, and movies. They will continue to own popular game studios including 4A Games, Aspyr Media, Crystal Dynamics, Dambuster Studios, and Deca Games. Also, the company announced earlier this year that co-founder Lars Wingefors is leaving his position as CEO.
