It’s been almost seven years since Emilia Clarke played Daenerys Targaryen, and now she’s starring in a new spy thriller available now on Peacock. All eight episodes of the highly anticipated series have just been released. This marks Clarke’s latest role following her appearances in projects like the animated film The Amazing Maurice, the Marvel series Secret Invasion, and the Netflix movie The Twits.
“Ponies” is a new spy thriller set during the Cold War, created by Susanna Fogel and David Iserson. The show takes place in 1977 and follows Clarke and Haley Lu Richardson as two women known as “persons of no interest” – or PONIES – who work as secretaries at the American Embassy in Moscow. After their husbands die mysteriously in the Soviet Union, they’re recruited by the CIA and begin investigating the large conspiracy that led to their deaths. The first season of “Ponies” has eight episodes and will premiere on Peacock on January 15th.
Ponies Is the Next Great Step in Emilia Clarke’s Post-Game of Thrones Career
Emilia Clarke has continued to work since the end of Game of Thrones, but her new series, Ponies, is already receiving incredible reviews and looks to be her most successful project yet. Currently, it has a 91% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, making it her highest-rated work since GOT. While audience scores aren’t available yet, critics are loving the show’s unique spin on the spy genre, which centers on two relatable and underestimated women. Clarke and co-star Richardson are both receiving praise for their charming performances.
Critics are raving about the new series Ponies. Tania Hussain of Collider called it “one of the most impressive new shows of 2026,” while Hope Sloop from Decider described it as “exactly the kind of hilarious and heart-racing thriller the world needs now.” Peter Martin of ScreenAnarchy praised Ponies as a “refreshing addition to the spy genre,” highlighting the strong chemistry and believable friendship between stars Emilia Clarke and Haley Lou Richardson. The show is also being recognized for its focus on compelling characters and psychological suspense, rather than relying on flashy effects.
Will There Be a Ponies Season 2?
It’s still uncertain whether the show will continue. Because it just started, it’s too soon to say if it will be renewed or cancelled. The decision will depend on things like how many people are watching. While early reviews of Ponies have been positive, fans will need to be patient to learn if Peacock will order a second season.
