Emily Blunt, Emma Stone, Tom Cruise & More Stars Who Believe in Aliens

Steven Spielberg isn’t only the director of many beloved alien movies; he genuinely believes in the possibility of extraterrestrial life.

His father, Arnold Spielberg, was an electrical engineer and big science fiction reader who “put it into my mind that we are not alone,” the Oscar winner told TopMob News ahead of the June 12 release of Disclosure Day, his fifth film about extraterrestrials in our midst. “He wasn’t talking about Earth, he was talking about the cosmos.”

Although Spielberg grew up believing in the existence of intelligent life elsewhere in the universe, he didn’t simply accept his father’s views – he formed his own beliefs as well.

He explained that it felt increasingly genuine. As he aged, he grew to believe there was a hidden truth that wasn’t being shared.

The 79-year-old says he’s been paying attention to what experts are saying about UFOs. In an interview with CBS News, he stated that after considering everything he’s heard and seen – from documentaries to congressional testimony – he firmly believes that UFOs have visited Earth, and may even be present now. He even wonders if they’ve been here all along.

Spielberg jokingly told CBS he feels he deserves to see a UFO himself, considering his work portraying them in films—he even calls himself an “ambassador to these guys.” He shares this open-mindedness with his wife, Kate Capshaw, and their children, who are receptive to stories of others’ experiences with extraterrestrials.

It’s a big leap from imagining aliens landing in spaceships to simply considering that life might exist elsewhere in the universe. There’s a lot of space between those two ideas.

In February, former President Barack Obama surprised some people by suggesting aliens might be real during a podcast interview. He later explained on Instagram that he simply believes there’s a good chance life exists somewhere else in the universe.

He won’t be making any announcements about alien life. But with stories from stars like Miley Cyrus and Demi Lovato about seeing UFOs, and Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt believing it’s arrogant to think we’re the only life in the universe, here’s a look at the celebrities who are open to the possibility of aliens.

Actress Stone, recently starring in Bugonia as a CEO who may or may not be an alien, praised Carl Sagan at the 2025 Venice Film Festival. She agreed with his idea that believing we are the only life in the universe is arrogant.

The Academy Award-winning actor stated plainly, “I do believe in aliens.”

Miley Cyrus believes she was pursued by a UFO while driving in San Bernardino, California. She described the object as resembling a “flowing snowplow.”

Oh my god, you guys, he told Rick Owens this! In an Interview Magazine chat back in 2020, he said there were other cars around, and they stopped too! He was so sure, he said it just confirmed what he saw was actually real. I mean, can you even imagine?! It wasn’t just him, other people saw something too! It’s everything!

Miley Cyrus said she wasn’t scared, but she did see something inside the flying object. She described making eye contact with a being, which she found deeply unsettling because she couldn’t understand what it was.

Considering the sheer number of stars in the universe, it seems unlikely we’re alone, said actor Tom Cruise. In a 2005 interview with the German newspaper Bild, shortly after starring in War of the Worlds, he stated, “There are many things out there, we just haven’t discovered them yet.”

When asked again about aliens in 2013, the actor from Oblivion admitted he hadn’t personally met one. However, he added that it would be presumptuous to believe humanity is the only life in the universe, saying he’d “probably” believe in their existence.

Don’t worry, the director of Close Encounters of the Third Kind and E.T. isn’t a closet skeptic.

In an interview with TopMob News before the release of his new film, Disclosure Day, Steven Spielberg shared a lifelong belief. He explained that growing up, his father, an electrical engineer who worked on one of the earliest computers for RCA, instilled in him the idea that life exists beyond Earth. “He put it into my mind that we are not alone,” Spielberg said.

Speaking with TIME, the Disclosure Day actress said she doesn’t believe humanity is alone in the universe, nor that we’re the most advanced civilization out there. She feels it would be presumptuous to think otherwise.

A fellow actor from Blunt’s film, Disclosure Day, admitted the movie didn’t really explore the idea of life outside Earth in depth, but he did wonder what aliens would gain by visiting us.

He told TIME things weren’t particularly good, explaining that the difficult part wasn’t the experiences themselves, but how people reacted to those who had them. He said the real harm came from being dismissed, manipulated, and ostracized, and he fully believes those experiences happened as described.

Demi Lovato says her belief in aliens stems from a deeply moving experience she had while looking at the stars on her 28th birthday in 2020.

She told Entertainment Weekly that her group was trying to establish communication when they noticed enormous lights in the sky forming a question mark.

She admitted it’s surprising, but she’s discovered that these experiences are filled with love, not fear.

The director of Nope said in 2022 that he thinks aliens exist. And if they ever visit Earth, he wouldn’t try to scare them away.

He joked on Late Night With Seth Meyers that if aliens ever landed, he’d quickly betray everyone else, believing there might be a place for a single, outstanding human among them.

Even before her journey to space, Perry had a feeling there was something incredible waiting to be discovered.

She explained to GQ in 2014 that she views the world spiritually. She’s a believer in astrology and the possibility of extraterrestrial life, often wondering if it’s arrogant to assume we’re alone in the universe.

In a February interview on the podcast No Lie With Brian Tyler Cohen, former President Barack Obama stated he believes aliens are real.

Following a stir caused by his initial remarks, Barack Obama explained he was speaking in general terms, not revealing any classified information. In an Instagram post, he said that given the immense size of the universe, it’s likely life exists elsewhere. However, he added that the vast distances between stars make it improbable we’ve been visited by aliens, and he never saw any proof of extraterrestrial contact during his time as president. He emphasized, “Really!”

Actor Keanu Reeves, known for his role as the alien Klaatu in The Day the Earth Stood Still, has often pondered the possibility of life beyond Earth. In a 2008 interview with Parade magazine, he said that considering all the mysteries in the universe, it’s unlikely we’re alone. He believes that even if extraterrestrial life doesn’t resemble us, it almost certainly exists somewhere out there.

The country singer told Us Weeklyin 2015 that she had “seen several UFOs.”

I was so excited to hear about Kacey Musgraves’ incredible experience! She shared a video on Instagram saying she saw the most amazing UFO – a bright orb – while flying to Fort Worth in April. It sounded absolutely wild, and honestly, it just made me love her even more!
