Emily Deschanel’s Animal Kingdom Role Is Blowing Up on Netflix—Why Fans Can’t Get Enough

First aired in 2005 and lasting for twelve seasons until it wrapped up in 2017, this show was widely praised for its acting and received two Primetime Emmy nods. Since then, viewers have been longing to see Emily Deschanel crack cases as Dr. Temperance Brennan on Bones. However, the crime drama series provided a replacement for that void.

In “Animal Kingdom,” Deschanel portrayed Angela Kane with a smaller part, stirring memories of Brennan among viewers. Though the series itself concluded on TNT back in 2022 after six seasons, it’s recently been gaining popularity on Netflix, according to recent reports. Over the past few weeks, “Animal Kingdom” has consistently appeared in Netflix’s streaming rankings. Specifically, during the week from June 16th to June 22nd, Season 1 of the show debuted at the 10th spot on the domestic charts and climbed up to seventh place during the following week between June 23rd and June 29th.

This week, “Animal Kingdom” has consistently ranked among the top shows on Netflix in the U.S., moving between positions 6 and 10. On July 3rd, it was bumped down from the 8th spot by “America’s Sweetheart: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders” and “Blindspot”.

17-year-old Joshua “J” Cody shifts to live with his distant relatives in Southern California following his mother’s drug overdose. But it isn’t long before he discovers that the Cody clan engages in illegal dealings for their livelihood.

In Season 4, Emily Deschanel portrayed Angela in twelve episodes – a fascinating twist given that Angela was Brennan’s friend on Bones, played by Michaela Conlin. The show featured Shawn Hatosy as the main character, alongside Ben Robson, Jeake Weary, and Finn Cole. Although critics didn’t give Animal Kingdom a favorable overall review, it managed to earn an impressive 87% approval rating from viewers, demonstrating its appeal to audiences.

Bones Will Have a Special Reunion Soon

Approximately eight years since its conclusion, the police procedural drama remains a favorite among viewers. Both enthusiasts and some cast members have expressed their desire for a comeback, but as of now, this hasn’t materialized. Yet, fans can look forward to the principal actors reuniting in a reunion of sorts.

To mark the 20th anniversary of the popular show “Fox’s Bones”, the main actors Emily Deschanel and David Boreanaz, known as Brennan and Special Agent Seeley Booth respectively, will come together for a special discussion at Televerse in Los Angeles. This event, taking place from August 14 to 16, will be held at the JW Marriott at L.A. Live. Alongside the creators of “Bones”, Hart Hanson, there will also be appearances by cast members T.J. Thyne (Dr. Jack Hodgins) and Tamara Taylor (Camille Saroyan).

The show spanned 12 seasons with a total of 246 episodes, resulting in two offshoots: firstly, an online series named “Bones: Skeleton Crew” focusing on the Jeffersonian lab staff, and secondly, the 2012 TV program “The Finder“, headlined by Geoff Stults and the late Michael Clarke Duncan, who appeared in a single 13-episode season.

Bones is now streaming on Hulu and Disney+, while Animal Kingdom is streaming on Netflix.
