Oh my gosh, you won’t BELIEVE this! Emily Hampshire and Catherine O’Hara? They weren’t just amazing as Stevie and Moira on Schitt’s Creek – they actually go way back! Their connection wasn’t something the show created; they were already close friends years before we even saw them on screen together. It makes their chemistry so much more special, knowing they had this sweet bond long before the cameras started rolling. I’m obsessed with them both, and this just makes me love them even more!
The two actors, who became famous for the Emmy-winning comedy that ran from 2015 to 2020, first met on the set of the crime drama The Life Before This back in 1999, and they’ve been together ever since.
Hampshire recently shared with TopMob News’ Will Marfuggi at the premiere of her movie, Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice, that the other actress remained consistently kind, even from their first meeting to after seven years of collaboration.
After meeting for the first time professionally, the person from Montreal contacted O’Hara for assistance with relocating to the United States.
She told me she was happy to help with my green card application, which required letters of support from well-known people attesting to my achievements. I had emailed her asking for her assistance, and she immediately responded with a very kind ‘Of course, anything!’
Of course, the act of kindness is part of O’Hara’s legacy.
“That’s her,” Hampshire shared. “That who she is to everybody. She is a great person.”
It’s not surprising that other actors from Schitt’s Creek shared similar fond recollections of Catherine O’Hara, who sadly passed away in January at the age of 71 after a short fight with cancer. She died from a pulmonary embolism.
Dan Levy, co-creator of the show, shared on Instagram on January 30th how lucky he felt to have worked alongside Catherine O’Hara for so many years. He said he’ll always treasure the funny memories they made together.
Levy also reflected on her longstanding connection to his dad Eugene Levy both on and off-screen.
I worked with Catherine alongside my dad for more than fifty years, so she felt like family long before she ever acted alongside my family on screen. It’s hard to picture life without her.

The situation is similar in Hampshire, but she’s determined to keep working. Her newest project pairs her with Vince Vaughn – who actually plays two roles – in a funny action comedy where she portrays a police officer with questionable ethics.
Seeing Vince perform was incredible,” Hampshire shared with TopMob. “His ability to think on his feet, combined with how engaging and hilarious he is, is amazing – and getting to experience that energy doubled is fantastic.
Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice premieres March 27 on Hulu.
