Emily Wickersham played Ellie Bishop on NCIS from 2013 to 2021. She initially auditioned on the show’s sets before landing the part. While she left after Season 18, her character wasn’t killed off, leaving the possibility for a future return to the CBS drama. It’s uncertain if she will come back, but a recent, enjoyable reunion with another NCIS cast member has renewed hope among fans.
During NCIS Seasons 14 through 18, Wickersham got to work with David J. North, who came back to the show after being a producer during Seasons 6 and 7. This time, North started out as a consulting producer, and was a co-executive producer by the time the actress left. These days, he’s serving as NCIS: Origins’ co-showrunner alongside Gina Lucita Monreal, but he just got to hang out Wickersham once again, as he shared on his Instagram Stories:

Since NCIS: Origins is a prequel showing Leroy Jethro Gibbs starting out as an NIS agent, long before he met Ellie Bishop, obviously we can rule out Emily Wickersham making a guest appearance on that show. This was just her stopping by David J. North’s workspace to hang out with an old colleague and sit in on the edit of Origins Season 2’s fifth episode, as revealed in another picture. A third picture North posted showed him and Wickersham on the couch together looking at the laptop, and then the actress posted this on her own Instagram Stories:

It’s nice to hear Emily Wickersham had a good time catching up with David J. North and even got a fun souvenir! But seeing her back with the show really makes me wish we could see Ellie Bishop return to NCIS. I understand eight seasons is a long time to play a character, and she’s described adjusting to life after the show as both wonderful and strange, especially with her pregnancy. While I don’t think she’d want to be a full-time cast member again, I’m hoping she might consider making a guest appearance sometime.

Following a visit from Tom Cruise to the set of NCIS: Origins, the show’s creator jokingly added a new ‘Gibbs Rule’ inspired by the actor.

At the end of the last season, Ellie Bishop left NCIS and intentionally damaged her career to go undercover for Odette Malone, a former associate of Ziva David. Now that this dangerous mission is hopefully complete, Bishop might visit her old team, though she isn’t planning to return to the agency. There’s still an unresolved connection with Nick Torres – they shared a kiss before she left, but never fully explored a romantic relationship.
Hopefully, we’ll see Emily Wickersham and David J. North work together again in the future. New episodes of NCIS air Tuesdays at 8 p.m. Eastern on CBS, and are available to stream on Paramount+ the next day. Keep an eye out for NCIS: Origins, which will premiere in 2025 on Tuesdays at 9 p.m. Eastern.
