A new film adaptation of The Chronicles of Narnia is in the works, and it promises to be the most complete and ambitious version yet. Greta Gerwig is set to direct her own take on C.S. Lewis’s beloved stories. This will be the first time this specific Narnia tale has been made into a movie, and in a recent interview with MovieWeb, Sex Education star confirmed she’s involved, excitedly describing the project as a thrilling “adventure” under Gerwig’s direction.
Mackey is currently acting in Ella McCay, a funny and dramatic political film directed by James L. Brooks. She appears alongside well-known actors like Jamie Lee Curtis and Woody Harrelson, as well as Spike Fearn, Ayo Edebiri, Rebecca Hall, and Julie Kavner, who also worked on The Simpsons with Brooks. During an interview with Joe Deckelmeier about the movie, she was also asked about a possible project related to Narnia. Here’s what she said:
We’ve heard you’re joining the upcoming Narnia film as the White Witch, and that Greta Gerwig is directing – that’s exciting! Can you give us any hints about the movie? Will your portrayal of the character be different from what we’ve seen before?
I can’t share much about the project right now, except that it’s been a fantastic experience so far – a real adventure! Greta Gerwig is someone I deeply admire, both as a friend and as an incredibly inspiring person, and I feel lucky to be working on her film.

Emma Mackey has quickly become a well-known actress in just six years, going from relative obscurity to winning a BAFTA and landing roles in major Hollywood productions. Her breakout role as Maeve Wiley in the Netflix series Sex Education in 2019, where she played a complex on-again, off-again love interest to Otis Milburn, immediately launched her career.
I’ve been so impressed watching Emma Mackey’s career take off! Just in the last couple of years, she was in Death on the Nile and played Emily Brontë in Emily, then she was part of the Barbie phenomenon – seriously, what a year! Even before that, she had some great roles in smaller films like Hot Milk and Alpha. And it doesn’t stop there! She’s got Ella McCay and a Narnia project coming up, and now she’s starring alongside Glen Powell, Jenna Ortega, and Samuel L. Jackson in J.J. Abrams’ new fantasy series, Ghostwriter. I can’t wait to see what she does next!
Because of her ongoing role in the Netflix Narnia series, particularly in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, the actress has a lot of work ahead of her. While her future projects are currently unknown, it won’t be long before she announces what’s next, adding to her already full schedule.
If you haven’t watched it yet, all four seasons of Sex Education are now streaming on Netflix. And keep an eye out for Ella McCay, which will be released in theaters on December 12, 2025.
