Please be aware that the following information contains spoilers for the latest episode of Emmerdale, which aired on Tuesday, September 23rd, 2025, and is now available to watch on ITVX.
Tuesday’s Emmerdale episode (September 23rd, 2025) ends with a dramatic cliffhanger as John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) keeps trying to avoid being caught for his crimes.
The murderer, who was also a medic, forced Caleb Miligan (William Ash) to assist with his escape from the country. He cleverly avoided leaving any of his own DNA on the body of his victim, Anthony Fox (Nicholas Day), when he got rid of it.
Because Anthony’s daughter, Ruby (played by Beth Cordingly), and Caleb’s wife was in danger of being accused of murder, Caleb had no choice but to drive John to Rotterdam.
The next day on the show, Ruby confronts Caleb, who seems suspicious. He claims he’s just on a long drive to deliver something for work.

At the hospital, John’s husband, Aaron Dingle (played by Danny Miller), who is also recovering from an attack, is finding things very difficult.
Ruby’s arrival provides much-needed support, as she and the other person share a painful connection – they both experienced abuse from their fathers.
Ruby notices similarities in how John and Anthony both behave, and Aaron is angry at himself for not realizing John was a threat sooner.
Ruby tells Aaron not to blame himself, and she and Chas Dingle try to convince him that John isn’t dangerous anymore.
However, Aaron understandably refuses to relax while John is still on the run.
Miller and Cordingly deliver a strong series of scenes that beautifully complement the intense moments between John and Caleb.
I really thought, for a moment, that John had Caleb where he wanted him – maybe even got him to come around, even if Caleb wasn’t thrilled about it. But honestly, I knew it wasn’t going to be that easy. Things *never* are in these kinds of stories!
When Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) learns John was responsible for his son Nate’s (Jurell Carter) death, he seeks revenge. Fans will be glad to see John finally lose his confident attitude.
As the conflict gets more intense, the story ends on a worrying note, making us fear for the safety of everyone close to John.
You won’t want to miss a moment of this explosive episode.
