Emmerdale airs exit scenes for major character after traumatic ordeal in early ITVX release

Today’s episode of Emmerdale marked the departure of Victoria Sugden, played by Isabel Hodgins, and her son Harry (Adam Pryor) as they left the village for good.

The exits of these characters represent another blow to the Sugden family – the original family of the show Emmerdale. Now, only Vic’s brother Robert (Ryan Hawley) and their niece Sarah (Katie Hill) remain to carry on the family name.

Vic debuted in 1994, and actress Hodgins, who is currently playing the role, took over in 2006. She is now expecting a baby and will be taking a leave of absence for maternity.

Okay, so things really went south for my character during that ‘Corriedale’ episode – the ‘Coronation Street’ crossover. I ended up injecting my half-brother, John, with something… well, let’s just say it wasn’t good. I thought I was being sneaky, but little did I know Joe Tate was secretly filming the whole thing on his phone! It was a total disaster, and honestly, a turning point for everything.

Joe has been using the recording to blackmail Vic and Robert, forcing them to give him their share of Butler’s Farm. He even manipulated Robert into falsely accusing Moira Dingle of serious crimes – human trafficking and murder – to ensure the deal went through.

I’ve been watching, and it’s heartbreaking to see Vic finally understand just how manipulative Joe has been. She’s decided to turn herself in to the police – she wants to protect Moira, but also take responsibility for everything she’s done. It’s a really tough decision, but she feels it’s the right thing to do.

Although the authorities determined John’s death was a suicide, she couldn’t accept it or find peace. She was constantly plagued by thoughts of what she’d done, and the thought of Moira’s children growing up without their mother was unbearable.

Joe only gave her six hours to convince Moira to approve the sale. Although Moira was hesitant at first, she ultimately agreed, feeling sorry for Vic.

Vic remained angry with Robert over his questionable actions involving Joe. He also revealed that their stepmother, Diane (Elizabeth Estensen), had given Harry and him permission to move to Portugal and live with her.

Robert wondered if living with Diane was a good idea, considering her age, and worried he might have to start taking care of her.

Vic asserted that it was a risk she had to take, and jumped into a taxi for the airport.

Robert was deeply affected by the day’s events and went to a nearby field owned by his grandmother, Annie (Sheila Mercier), near Butler’s. His partner, Aaron (Danny Miller), found him stunned, having just discovered a family heirloom while overcome with emotion and tears.

The original stone, bearing the name ‘Emmerdale Farm’, was found in the field. It once marked the wall of the family’s original home, which fell into disrepair after the ground beneath it gave way in 1993.

Thinking of his grandfather and Uncle Joe, Robert promised to revive the Sugdens’ farming tradition, hoping it would encourage Victoria and Harry to come back.

Will they ever come back to the village?

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 8pm on ITV1. Stream on ITVX.
