Warning: This discussion may reveal plot points from tomorrow’s Emmerdale episode, which is now streaming on ITVX.
A naive resident from the village has unknowingly become entangled in the sinister plot of John Sugden (played by Oliver Farnworth), as he struggles under the weight of his past misdeeds.
Following the setup where Simon Haines was falsely accused and killed as the one who murdered Nate Robinson, John expected that Cain Dingle, deeply affected by the loss of his son, might find solace in resolving this situation.
However, when John went to see Cain on July 23rd, 2025, he found himself wishing he hadn’t, as Cain appeared to be even more distressed than he had been upon hearing about Owen’s predicament.
Instead of naively thinking that a detailed account of the false confession about how Owen supposedly committed the murder of Nate would suffice, John chose to believe it would aid in the investigation.

Since Owen was under the care of Dr. Liam Cavanagh (portrayed by Jonny McPherson), Cain became increasingly focused on this situation, growing frustrated when Liam refused to breach the confidentiality of his patients.
In due course, Liam shared with John the heart-wrenching impact of losing a child, leaving John feeling distressed as he realized his recent actions had denied Cain the chance to seek justice for Nate.
When John found himself in distress once more, he turned to a help hotline, unbeknownst to him that at the same time, Paddy Dingle (Dominic Brunt) was volunteering at that very helpline, working through the aftermath of his recent ordeal involving a dog attack.
With John speaking to a volunteer via web chat, he was offered a phone call instead.
To catch the upcoming events, you should either stream it on ITVX or turn on ITV1 at 7:30 PM. It’s likely you’ve already figured out that Paddy’s latest position isn’t a mere accident.

If Paddy finds himself on the other end of a call with John, will he recognise his voice?
As Robert Sugden (played by Ryan Hawley) pondered, he found Owen’s ‘confession’ unusual, given that they had only just shared a date where Owen had spiked his drink. This recent event sparked his curiosity.
In our narrative, I found myself engrossed in an unexpected situation when I encountered the intense Kim Tate, portrayed by Claire King. Instead of handing over granny Annie’s (Sheila Mercier) field as she demanded, my actions seemed to stir her up.
However, as Robert becomes increasingly suspicious of his half-brother John, how far will he delve into uncovering the truth?
