Emmerdale icon Eric Pollard heartbroken after making sad discovery in early ITVX release

I’ve been watching Emmerdale for years, and it’s amazing to think Chris Chittell has played Eric Pollard for four decades! While I’ve definitely grown to appreciate him, I have to admit, Eric has done some pretty cold things over the years. He’s certainly kept things interesting, though!

Pollard was known for being nosy, making harsh business choices, and often clashing with those around him. However, his marriage to his fifth wife, Val, brought out a gentler side to his personality. The lively and outgoing Val encouraged him to become more of a family man, and together they opened their home to several children in need, including Amy Barton.

Last year, in an unexpected turn of events, he married Kerry Wyatt (Laura Norton), the mother of his late wife, Amy.

Their marriage wasn’t based on love, but rather a practical arrangement. Pollard and his wife planned it as a way to financially secure their grandson, Jacob Sugden, if Jacob’s wife, Sarah, were to pass away.

Sarah has a rare genetic condition called Fanconi anaemia, which means her bone marrow doesn’t work properly and she’s at a much higher risk of getting cancer. She recently had a hysterectomy after being diagnosed with cervical cancer.

Although Pollard and Kerry are just friends, they’ve continued to act like a couple and have even moved in together. However, Kerry has been secretly having an affair with her boss, Jai Sharma.

They’d been secretly involved for months, originally ending things because they worried their colleagues at Caleb Miligan’s workplace would discover the affair.

But lately, their connection has been rekindled, and they’ve been secretly meeting at Pollard’s former home, where they’re passionately reconnecting.

Jai’s teenage son, Archie Breckle, seems to have figured out what’s going on, and he started arguing with Kerry’s grandson, Kyle Winchester, in today’s episode. When Pollard asked what the fight was about, the boys gave him a surprising explanation.

Pollard was surprised by what he’d been told, but decided to investigate. Kerry explained she had to stay late at work because of a large delivery, and wouldn’t be home for dinner.

Jai made the deception worse by pretending to be strict with Kerry, forcing her to work extra hours to meet the company’s needs.

When Pollard went to the depot that afternoon, the people he was looking for were gone. Billy Fletcher had heard they’d unexpectedly had to go to a health and safety conference in Leeds, but that didn’t match what they’d told Pollard earlier.

Now that Archie and Kyle’s stories checked out, a heartbroken Pollard went to the house he used to share with Val. He seemed to see a bit of Val in Kerry, and it became clear he might have deeper feelings for her than he realized.

He was surprised to find a bra lying on the living room floor, and then discovered a pair of boxer shorts nearby. Upstairs, Kerry and Jai were quietly laughing, thinking they’d successfully enjoyed another afternoon of playful mischief without anyone noticing.

Will Pollard lay his cards on the table?
