As a passionate movie-goer, I can’t help but feel the suspense brewing in Emmerdale as John Sugden, portrayed by Oliver Farnworth, continues his clandestine rule with an intensity that’s hard to ignore. The imminent revelation by Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) promises to shake things up and potentially rewrite the storyline entirely.
Despite our concerns for Mack’s wellbeing, our primary focus remains the impending demise of John, whose defeat seems imminent – and the implications this will have on his future.
Soaps tend to frequently eliminate their villainous characters by means of death, which has become quite an overused outcome.
This year, we’ve seen a succession of sinister characters meeting their end on shows like EastEnders with Nish Panesar (played by Navin Chowdhry), Coronation Street’s Joel Deering (Calum Lill), and Emmerdale’s Anthony Fox (Nicholas Day). However, the way these characters are written off has become quite predictable and unoriginal.
So, we’re hoping this won’t be the case for John, and there are plenty of reasons why.
Even though John’s tale has had so many unbelievable twists that it might seem fitting for an equally implausible end like his bizarre actions meriting a demise, such a conclusion would fall short and leave us wanting more.
Though John’s narrative has made turns so extraordinary that an ending as outlandish as his antics may seem rightful, it would ultimately prove unsatisfying.

It’s possible you may find yourself drawn towards another intriguing murder case; however, an unexpected turn of events in the year 2023 somewhat muted the justice served to character Craig Reed (played by Ben Addis), despite a compelling performance from Lydia Dingle actress Karen Blick.
In the past, mysteries like ‘whodunnits’ were undoubtedly some of the most thrilling narratives found in our cherished soap operas. However, with the number of such stories we’ve encountered, we find ourselves eager for Emmerdale to avoid following this plotline in their next story arc.
The triumphant nature of Meena Jutla’s (Paige Sandhu) and Tom King’s (James Chase) prison departures stemmed from them losing all control, a trait that mirrors the relentless John. In simpler terms, their victorious exit from prison was due to them no longer having power over their situations, much like the persistent character John.
In a twisted desire for admiration and hero status, John pushes villagers to the edge of peril, only to subsequently rescue them. Consequently, it seems just that he serves time in prison for his reprehensible actions.
After enduring months of distress caused by half-brother Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley), imprisoning John could undeniably be a form of just retribution, given his underhanded ways as a doctor.
After suffering through months with half-brother Robert Sugden, locking up John would be quite fitting, considering he’s known for being sneaky and manipulative.
Maintaining John’s life would not only enrich the historical narrative for the Sugdens, but it could also provide an opportunity for his character to be revisited in the future stories.

If the show doesn’t reveal that John is a fraudulent sibling, a theory we find hard to let go of because it seems pointless for John, who appears to be the black sheep, to be the son of Jack (Clive Hornby), then he will likely end up in the family archives as an outcast.
If the show doesn’t expose John as a fraudulent sibling, which is a theory that sticks due to the seeming pointlessness of making the prodigal son Jack (Clive Hornby)’s offspring, then John will likely be relegated to the role of the black sheep in the family history.
Indeed, granting this wish implies that Aaron Dingle (played by Danny Miller) – who is deeply committed to Robert – must once more navigate the challenging path of a divorce.
It seems more appropriate, doesn’t it, to opt for this scenario instead of labeling ‘Robron’ as potential suspects in John’s murder, or allowing him to essentially escape justice with an easy demise.
Absolutely, it would be great if Robert could continue to participate in John’s justice, and when Aaron gains clarity, he too could contribute to this process.
But let them outsmart John in a battle of wits instead.
As an ardent supporter, I yearn for genuine justice, maintaining the timeless essence of our favorite soaps by bringing down the most ruthless villains.
