Jacob Sugden is still facing difficulties at work in Emmerdale. His boss, Dr. Caitlin Todd, recently lost her temper with a patient, creating a tense situation.
Todd’s behavior is very inconsistent. She’ll enthusiastically encourage Jacob’s medical studies, then suddenly criticize him and demand he finish large assignments immediately.
When Harker came back to the show, she described the character as complex and someone who would present a real challenge for Jacob.
Regarding the bullying plotline, she commented that workplace bullying is very common, and she’s glad to see the issue explored in a soap opera like Emmerdale.
After Kim Tate (Claire King) ended up in the hospital earlier this week, she initially thought she might have been poisoned by mushrooms, agreeing with Jacob’s idea. But when tests showed she’d actually taken too much of her pain medication, Todd became angry and blamed Jacob for misdiagnosing the problem.

Jacob grovelled to Kim, begging him not to sue him for malpractice.
During their conversation today, she told him she wouldn’t sue. However, Todd felt he’d be more useful if he transferred to work on the general wards at Hotten Hospital.
He was heartbroken, but he had to do as she instructed. While following her orders, he unexpectedly heard her yelling at a patient who was clearly upset and in a fragile state.

Jacob heard a man shouting from behind a curtain, and Todd was scolding him for not listening. Jacob thought this behavior was wrong, so he decided to address the situation with the person responsible.
She confided that the patient was actually her father, and that he was struggling with dementia, leaving him far from the man he used to be. Todd shared that he also used to be a surgeon, making it particularly painful to watch his father’s health decline.

She also said that he desperately wanted to return home, though he now lived in a care facility.
Jacob understood what she was going through because his own grandfather, Eric Pollard, had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. Although his grandfather’s condition wasn’t progressing as quickly, Jacob knew he would eventually face similar tough choices.
Dr Todd also revealed that she had a wife – a rare insight into her home life.
Will the conversation form somewhat of an olive branch, and allow them to move forward?
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 8pm on ITV1 and from 7am on ITVX.
