Joe Absolom recently discussed the menacing nature of his Emmerdale character, Ray Walters. As this county lines criminal ramps up his control over Dylan Penders (portrayed by Fred Kettle), viewers will see the true extent of Ray’s dangerous manipulation unfold.
Despite Dylan attempting to distance himself from drug-related activities, his job hunt remains unsuccessful. Consequently, Ray manages to convince him to return to work under him once more.
As a movie enthusiast, there’s no denying this character is relentless and menacing. I can’t help but think his name should be Gunner, or Ray Gunn if we’re being specific. But alas, it’s Walters! I chuckle at the irony. He’s a towering figure, the epitome of power in my eyes – the kingpin, the one who reigns supreme. Yet, he suggests he has bosses that are even more ruthless than him.
Implying the extent Ray might reach to achieve his desires, the actor suggested: “We’ll likely discover it throughout our journey.
Absolom clarified the actions of his alternate persona: He relies on individuals such as Dylan and April Windsor, who appears to have done a single, presumed-one-time drug transaction, as likely easy prey for Ray.
Dylan is a susceptible figure, which makes him just the kind of person Ray requires. Whenever Ray conducts his affairs, he must locate that potential entry point into a particular group or community.
“Dylan and April are very much that weak link; cash impresses, Ray’s got a nice car.”
Ray doesn’t appear to be genuinely wicked, but rather seems to subtly control situations. There’s a thin distinction between portraying a villainous character and acting as if one is feigning villainy, he pondered.
You should aim to avoid appearing as a stereotypical movie villain who makes overly obvious gestures for the audience’s benefit, yet it’s essential that your actions are clear and easy to understand for the viewers.
Those sections are consistently enjoyable since they offer ample opportunities for exploration, whether it’s testing limits or convincingly pretending to care for Dylan or April. It’s rather unusual, though, to keep handing out large sums of money to a child.
It seems that Absolom has recently taken on roles in various productions, including the ITV thriller “Code of Silence,” where he portrayed gang member Braden alongside Rose Ayling-Ellis, who is known for her victory in both EastEnders and Strictly Come Dancing. One might wonder if Absolom enjoys playing villainous characters.
I find it far more enjoyable! In fact, I believe that deep within me lies a default state of unhappiness; my regular state is unhappy, making it simpler for me to be cranky rather than cheerful.
