Emmerdale star Sally Dexter reveals all on “very special” return as dead Faith Dingle

**Warning: This article contains spoilers for tonight’s (12th November) Emmerdale episode.**

Sally Dexter is back playing Faith Dingle on Emmerdale, even though her character died over three years ago after being diagnosed with terminal breast cancer.

Honestly, it was a total shock – neither I, as a viewer, nor even Dexter, the character, saw it coming! Luckily, they aired a special episode focusing on what Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) had been up to while we hadn’t seen him, and that’s what allowed them to pull it off. It really filled in the gaps and made the reveal work.

“They’ve thrown me in prison with Robert,” Dexter explained.

This week’s episode is a look back at previous events, and it’s been fun revisiting it. My first thought was, ‘How will they explain my return?’

“I’m dead! I’ve been dead I think it’s about two years, yeah, so I had no idea what was coming.”

Tonight on ITV, Faith visited Robert in prison and encouraged him to appeal his murder conviction, hoping he could be reunited with Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller).

As many remember, Robert had a win earlier this year, but he had to lie to his fellow inmate, Kev Townsend (played by Chris Coghill), about the reason for his release.

Quickly thinking of an excuse, he told Kev that his sister, Victoria, had been diagnosed with a brain tumor and he needed to rush home to be with her. However, a confused look from Dr. Cavanagh at the end of the episode revealed to Kev that Suggers had been untruthful.

But as for Faith, is this the last we’ve seen of her?

“It’s been really enjoyable,” she explains.

“They’re just such a lovely bunch of people here, all of them, crew and cast included.

I’ve been working on an Australian accent, just in case the show introduces a long-lost cousin named Hope. I’d even ask for a blonde wig if they did!

She also shared her thoughts on leaving in 2023, and how Faith’s final days deeply resonated with her fans.

“Damn him! No, he’s wonderful.”

The actress, known for her roles in shows like Poldark, Holby City, and the early 2000s soap Night and Day, shared that playing Faith has a special meaning for her personally.

I’ve always modeled my character after my mother, and since she sadly passed away last year, it’s really special to be able to portray her again.

“Such a joyous thing to do and I’m very grateful.

If you missed tonight’s episode, I highly recommend checking it out. It was a really meaningful episode, and it meant a lot to me to reprise the role of Faith.
