Emmerdale teases Robert Sugden revenge on Joe Tate with new ally in early ITVX release

Robert Sugden, played by Ryan Hawley, might have found someone to help him in his ongoing conflict with Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) on Emmerdale.

Honestly, it’s been awful watching Robert go through this. He’s been completely trapped! Someone’s been blackmailing him, and it got so bad he was forced to wrongly accuse Moira Dingle of some terrible crimes – modern slavery and even murder. It all started when his brother, John, tragically died, and his sister Victoria was involved. Joe filmed it all and used that footage to control Robert, threatening to send it to the police if he didn’t do what he was told. It’s just heartbreaking to see him in this situation.

Even though authorities determined John died by suicide, Vic felt her life had irrevocably changed and decided to start over in Spain with her son, Harry.

Joe now owns Moira’s old farm, Butler’s Farm, and has put Robert in charge of running it. He was initially thrilled to reclaim the Sugden family’s history by renaming the farm Emmerdale Farm, but he’s shown he’s still controlling by trying to sell the cattle without Robert’s knowledge and making it clear he’s the one in charge.

Robert was upset after a phone call with Vic, who told him she doesn’t plan on coming back to the village, particularly while Joe is still causing problems.

Aaron Dingle told Joe he was tired of being controlled, but he knew Joe had power over him with the video, so he didn’t want to cause trouble. He also worried they would lose their home if Joe decided to take away the farmhouse.

Later that day, things got worse when Cain Dingle told Aaron that Moira planned to admit she was guilty. She was desperate not to be separated from her kids for a long time and believed pleading guilty might result in a shorter sentence.

Robert felt terrible about what happened and immediately went to Home Farm to talk to Joe. He urged Joe to end their scheme and suggested they tell the police about Moira being wrongly accused, hoping the investigation would focus on the real culprit, Celia Daniels.

Joe didn’t like the idea at all. He made it clear he wasn’t willing to sacrifice his own life for Moira and immediately ended the discussion.

Michael Parr, playing Ross Barton, showed up and told Robert that Joe was also starting to bother him. Robert suggested they both teach Joe a lesson, offering to reward Ross for helping.

What will Robert and Ross do, and will they succeed in bringing down Joe?

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 8pm on ITV1 and from 7am on ITVX.
