Warning: Thursday’s Emmerdale episode (July 10th) on ITVX contains plot revelations.
In the upcoming episode of Emmerdale on Thursday, 10th July 2025, viewers will get a glimpse into the harrowing situation that Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) faces as he is held captive.
In a coercive scheme targeting Joe, he was sent anonymous letters with menacing content, urging him to pay £100,000 to prevent the exposure of his hidden illegal activities.
When it appeared that Joe thought Shaun (James Boyland), one of his henchmen, was up to no good and fired him, Shaun retaliated against Joe. However, Joe had the backing of trustworthy Sam Dingle (James Hooton) during this time.
Sam proposed that Joe might travel overseas as a means to escape the peril, yet unfortunately, Joe was subsequently struck unconscious by Shaun using a shovel instead.
In the escalating events of the Dales, Joe finds himself groggy and bewildered in an improvised medical setting. It turns out that the man tending to him, surprisingly, is Dr. Crowley, played by James Hillier.

In the role of a passionate film enthusiast, I’d rephrase that as follows: I can’t help but feel a shiver down my spine as I recall the chilling presence of Crowley towering over Joe. Little did he know, his decision to enlist Crowley for an illicit kidney transplant would soon fill him with remorse!
What exactly does Crowley want from Joe?
Instead, you can tune into ITVX to see what unfolds next in Emmerdale, or if you prefer, watch an hour-long episode on ITV1 starting at 7:30 PM.
To put it simply, Joe has found himself in a position where he’s no longer in control, having lived freely for several months, now he’s under the watchful eye of another person, leaving him fearful.
He tends to irritate many people, and there might be instances where individuals resort to aggression. Therefore, having some physical strength with a character such as Joe is beneficial, as he clearly lacks it.
“But then with that comes its own dangers. Hired muscles have their own issues!”
So, as his association with Shaun and Crowley comes back to haunt him, will Joe escape their wrath?
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV1. Stream on ITVX.
