Emmerdale villain makes surprise return in early ITVX release – one month after being killed off

The only absolute certainty in life is death.

Real life isn’t like a soap opera, so setbacks don’t always mean things are over. Consider Ray Walters from Emmerdale, for instance.

Even though the character was initially killed off before the storyline involving the Corriedale crossover, he reappeared in several flashback scenes to reveal how he died. Surprisingly, he made another dramatic return in today’s episode.

Throughout the episode, Bear Wolf (Joshua Richards) was haunted by a spectral image of a distorted Ray, who repeatedly pushed him to admit to the murder.

Paddy Dingle, with the assistance of Dr. Manpreet Sharma, arranged for a counselor specializing in modern slavery to talk to his father, hoping to get him professional help.

Bear was in a very dangerous position. He was emotionally shattered and easily could have confessed that his angry outburst caused Ray’s death.

When the counseling started, Bear began experiencing vivid hallucinations of the person who had held him captive. These visions surrounded him and made him doubt what the counselor was saying. Ray kept insisting he was a good person who’d tried to assist Bear, which unfortunately strengthened Bear’s feelings of attachment to his captor.

Dylan Penders, played by Fred Kettle, confided in Paddy that he believed he was cursed. He felt like his arrival in the village had brought nothing but problems, and he thought everyone would be happier if he left.

April Windsor (Amelia Flanagan), his girlfriend, felt the same way. She told her stepmother, Rhona Goskirk (Zoe Henry), that she thought everyone involved in Ray’s scheme, including herself, should face some consequences.

Rhona encouraged her to realize she’d been harmed just as much as Bear had. The four of them then went out onto Main Street and noticed a problem that had started because of Bear’s meeting with someone.

Officers were leading him away from Manpreet’s home, and the counselor explained that he had admitted to killing Ray and turned himself in to the police.

Will Bear be sent down for murder?

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 8pm on ITV1. Stream on ITVX.
