Emmerdale’s Beloved Vicar Transforms into Hollyoaks’ Notorious Villain 8 Years After Tragic Death

As a devoted fan of soap operas, I can’t contain my excitement! A fresh, formidable villain is about to make his debut on Hollyoaks, and guess who’s stepping into the role? None other than an Emmerdale veteran known for their captivating performances! This twist promises to add a thrilling layer of drama that I can hardly wait to unravel.

Fraser Black Sr., also known as Froggy, is revealed to be the father of the late Fraser (Jesse Birdsall) and the grandfather of Grace Black (Tamara Wall), Clare Devine (Gemma Bissix), and Rex Gallagher (Jonny Labey).

In the play, the character Froggy is portrayed by John Middleton, who is best known for his iconic role as the revered vicar Ashley Thomas in Emmerdale Farm (often referred to simply as The Dales).

At present, Froggy shares a cell with Tom Cunningham, who’s just been released (Ellis Hollins). Froggy has taken on Tom as an informal financial consultant of sorts.

However, matters are set to become more intriguing as we learn that the older man shares a close connection with Clare.

Absolutely, the resurrected woman named Clare was once the sister-in-law of Tom, during his childhood years, she often tormented him and committed numerous other mischievous acts.

Now it looks like Tom is working with Froggy to bring evil Clare down!

As the leading figure among his peers, Froggy is set to leave prison, eager to maintain a squeaky-clean record so he can devote quality time to his beloved family, especially his cherished granddaughter named Gracie.

Upon learning some startling details about his granddaughter’s location from Tom, Froggy intends to act. Yet, there’s a doubt lingering: Will Froggy be warmly accepted by his family when he arrives?

When discussing his role in Hollyoaks, Middleton expressed: “Going from a Vicar to a Villain is quite a big change, but it’s exactly this kind of challenge that I find exciting about this role.

It remains to be seen if Froggy poses a threat, but it’s evident that he’s prepared to leave an impact in the community of Hollyoaks.

From 1996 through 2017, Middleton played a role on Emmerdale. However, his character, Ashley, sadly succumbed to dementia and passed away.

Or simply:
Middleton portrayed Ashley on Emmerdale from 1996 until 2017 when the character died after a struggle with dementia.

The plot received broad acclaim, and the main actor was awarded two British Soap Awards for his heartfelt acting performances.

After departing from the ITV soap opera, the actor has taken on roles such as American detective Arthur Gerard in Strangers on a Train, and that of Frank in the solo play Hull & High Water.

From 2022 to 2023, Middleton portrayed Colonel Pickering in the United Kingdom tour of “My Fair Lady.” Alongside this role, he has an extensive list of television appearances including “Doctors,” “The Things You Do for Love,” “The Gambling Man,” and “Cracker.
