Emmerdale’s Cain Dingle gains an unlikely ally amid prostate cancer battle in early ITVX release

Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) is facing one of the most difficult times of his life in Emmerdale.

Moira Barton is in prison for accidentally killing two people, though she didn’t actually commit the crime. Robert Sugden set her up, and was pressured into doing so by Joe Tate.

Joe was determined to buy the Sugdens’ land and realized the only way to convince Moira to sell was to put her in a difficult situation.

She was imprisoned shortly before Cain received a diagnosis of an aggressive, but contained, form of prostate cancer. He didn’t tell his family at first, but has since shared the news with his granddaughter, Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill).

Honestly, seeing him so down, I thought a little bit of that old Dingle mischief might cheer him up. It sounds crazy, but I even suggested a car theft! And, well, when Joe got a shiny new DeLorean… let’s just say temptation got the better of us. We took it for a joyride, figuring we’d quickly find someone to flip it to. It was a terrible idea, of course, but for a moment, it felt… exhilarating.

Joe quickly understood what was going on, even though Cain claimed he knew nothing about it. Cain offered to say whether he had the vehicle for a payment of £200.

Although Joe was tempted by the offer, he decided to play the long game instead and walked away.

Today, he asked Graham Foster, who used to look after him, to investigate, while he went to Butler’s in search of the keys.

Sarah was encouraging Cain to steal more engines to improve his poor financial situation. Cain hesitated, explaining that while he liked annoying Joe, he didn’t want to risk getting caught.

Graham tried to stay hidden, but was quickly found wandering in the kitchen. While looking around, he came across a letter about Cain’s cancer.

The men nearly started fighting, but Cain was too tired to put up a struggle and ended up falling. Graham noticed how upset he was and went to the garage later to talk about what the doctor had said.

He shared that his father passed away from prostate cancer, and it was heartbreaking to watch his health decline. Graham didn’t want to experience that same painful process with Cain.

At the pub later, he advised him to end his feud with the Tates—who were simply trying to exploit Butler—and prioritize his well-being.

The men greeted each other with a handshake, but Kim Tate (Claire King), Graham’s former wife, was secretly observing them. She quickly jumped to the conclusion that Graham was being unfaithful to Joe.

Will she feed this information back to Joe, and how will Graham explain himself?

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 8pm on ITV1. Stream on ITVX.
