Emmerdale’s Kerry Pollard makes grave mistake in Jacob Sugden and Dr Todd story in early ITVX release

In Emmerdale, Dr. Caitlin Todd, played by Caroline Harker, is taking action against the bullying Jacob Sugden (Joe-Warren Plant) is experiencing at work.

Todd’s behavior is erratic, making Jacob question if it’s simply a reaction to the stress of his demanding medical training. While she often seems to encourage his career, she’ll just as quickly criticize his abilities.

Jacob had a really tough week. He accidentally overheard Todd yelling at a patient, but then learned the patient’s father was living with advanced dementia, which explained a lot about the situation and led to some understanding.

She was upset he’d challenged her actions, but he was determined to make amends when her father suffered a cardiac arrest. Since Todd was caring for a different patient, Jacob administered CPR.

However, he disregarded the do-not-resuscitate order that was in place, which made Todd very angry. In the process, Jacob broke Todd’s father’s ribs and made his condition worse.

When he realized this could ruin his life, he rushed out of work and, in a panic, accidentally hit Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) with his car.

Cain learned his prostate surgery needed to be postponed until he was fully recovered. He then told Jacob that in exchange for moving the surgery date forward, he would try to get the police to be lenient with him.

He also let Kerry Pollard know he’d blame Jacob directly if his cancer spread. It really worried me to hear him say that – it felt like a terrible threat, holding Jacob accountable for something beyond his control.

Kerry was starting to worry about Jacob, so she went to Hotten General Hospital to see how he was doing. She unexpectedly heard Todd angrily scolding him and decided to intervene.

Kerry walked over to Todd and gently pointed out that Jacob was likely too stressed to be working. She also apologized for speaking to him harshly, realizing she hadn’t fully understood how difficult things were for him.

Kerry shared that his wife, Sarah (Katie Hill), is seriously ill and they are expecting a baby. He then accused Todd of being overly controlling and taking advantage of him.

She also let slip that he’d been manipulated by a woman before…

This caught Todd’s attention, and she later asked her friend Manpreet Sharma for more information. Manpreet explained the basics of the connection between Maya Stepney – the former wife of Liam Cavanagh – and Jacob, revealing that Maya had manipulated Jacob when he was a student.

Todd told Manpreet that it explained a lot, and that she’d keep it in mind for future.

Is Dr Todd about to use Jacob’s abuse as a new way to bully him?

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 8pm on ITV1 and from 7am on ITVX.
