Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) is struggling after being sexually assaulted and blackmailed by Dr. Todd (Caroline Harker) on Emmerdale, and her family is starting to worry about her.
Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter) doesn’t know the full story and is unaware that her cousin was assaulted by the surgeon.
Even though Charity did the right thing by reporting Todd to the police, things got worse when Detective Sergeant Reid (Angela Lonsdale) explained they didn’t have enough proof to press charges.
She’s been struggling with everything on her own, and in the latest episode, she asked her husband, Mackenzie Boyd, if they could keep her son Moses’s birthday celebration small and simple. He said yes, but he thought that meant including Ross Barton and Sarah Sugden as well.
Seeing them again reminded Todd of how his blackmail scheme started. The audience, and eventually Todd himself, discovered that Charity was originally intended to be a surrogate mother for Sarah and Jacob (played by Joe-Warren Plant), but she unexpectedly became pregnant with Ross’s baby instead.

The baby, Leyla, now lives with the Sugdens, and they have no idea of her true parentage.
Oh boy, this scene just broke my heart! Charity accidentally dropped Moses’s birthday cake – a total disaster! She immediately ran off, convinced she’d completely ruined his celebration. It was a simple moment, but so powerfully conveyed her distress and the weight she felt over the mishap. Definitely a relatable and emotionally resonant beat in the film.
The others went to The Hide, but Charity spent some time talking privately with Chas about how she was feeling. When she caught up with the group, she apologized for being gone most of the day and explained she’d gotten Moses tickets to the movies as a peace offering.
It sounds silly, but later that day, I was really shaken up. Just the idea of being by myself while Mack was out shopping brought me to tears. It just hit me how lonely it would be, and I couldn’t help it!
He asked Vanessa Woodfield about her sister Tracy’s struggles with postpartum depression, and wondered if Charity might be going through something similar.
When he told his wife what had happened, she was very angry that he’d spoken to Vanessa about something so personal without her knowledge – especially considering Vanessa had recently been trying to date Dr. Todd.

She asked him to keep her health private and promised to see Dr. Manpreet Sharma the next day.
Will Charity get the help she needs, and will she ever tell her family about the sexual assault?
